Hamilton Beach Smooth Touch Electric Can Opener With Easy Push Down Lever

This thing is unstoppable! I purchased it in 2017 and have used it nearly every day (it's now 2026.) It has survived moves from Hawaii to Florida to Virginia, three kids, and some kitchen messes that would have destroyed lesser appliances.It is fairly sleek looking however, we keep it in the front of a cabinet and pull it out by the handle on top only when we need to use it. When putting it away we wrap the cord around it and shove it back in time-out to await the next can opening adventure. We are not very kind to this can opener but even after all these years it looks nearly new.We have had a few manual can openers (including a nice Swing-A-Way) for power outages, and they have broken, rusted, or gummed up to the point we had to throw them away... even with the limited usage they see. And yet, this one keeps on trucking.The can opening mechanism works flawlessly every time. It cuts the can around the outside leaving a smooth, dull surface that isn't capable of hurting anyone (or slicing through a trash bag.)The operation couldn't be easier - tilt the top of the can against the gear - rock the bottom of the can toward the body of the opener - press down gently on the oversized handle at the top - and presto! it activates and rotates the can open. While it is spinning the can it holds it quite well (there's even a little "lock" that shows up to inform you it's safe to let go of the can) and doesn't release until you pull up on the handle.I believe this can opener would be an excellent choice for most elderly, disabled, or mobility restricted people.I have nothing negative to say about this can opener. If it ever fails I will be looking for this exact same model to replace it. Well worth the money - and then some!

I love this can opener. It opens a can by cutting just under the lid and that makes it easier to take the top off and also means there are no sharp edges to worry about. Because of this you can even open pop tops using the opener, which I find hard to open with arthritis. It's a classy looking can opener and very easy to use.

Love this can opener! I bought this to replace my manual can opener. My arthritis has gotten bad enough that it was just time. So glad I found this one. Very easy to use and does a great job!!!

This is the most amazing can opener, and a life-saver for those with arthritic hands and/or fingers! The large handle requires almost zero strength and the cans are opened from the side, without any jagged edges. In the future, if this ever wears out, I will order another one the same day!

Update 12-23-25: Well, it's been over two years since I purchased my Kitchen Mama can opener. I'm still using it almost every day and it works as well today as the day I first opened the box. I love this thing. It has helped make it easier to continue making healthy home cooked meals for my husband and I and I am very grateful to Kitchen Mama for helping make that happen. Every senior out there should have one of these.Edit 9-22-23: I have had this can opener for almost 3 months now and have used it almost every day. It is still working perfectly. I had to come back and add a comment. I see some reviews saying they the can opener leaves sharp edges. I have NEVER had a sharp edge left by this opener. I just set the opener on top of the can, press the button, and the can opener does the rest.Original review:Let me start by saying I PROMISE to come back and edit this review if ANY problems develop with this can opener in the next year. I am in my late 70s, in a wheelchair, and dealing with several different forms of painful arthritis. I still cook for myself and my husband and try to do as much "from scratch" as I can. That means I open cans on a pretty regular basis.My new Kitchen Mama electric can opener arrived today. I think the next sentence says a LOT. I opened the box, removed the can opener, cleaned it with a food safe disinfecting wipe, installed 4 AA batteries, set a standard size can of chick peas on the counter, set the can opener down on top of the can, pressed the button, and the can open started rotating around the top of the can. THAT'S IT!!! I didn't have to fidget with positioning. I just sat it on top of the lid with the can opening part where I thought it should sit. The can opener does continue to rotate around the lid even after it has completely cut the lid BUT you do hear a difference in sound once the lid has been completely severed. I pressed the on/off button again and the can opener stopped. I removed the can opener and then lifted the lid off. No sharp edges, no muss, no fuss. I have only opened several different sized cans before writing this review which is why I promised to come back and report if any problems develop. This can opener is a life changer for me in the kitchen. I had gotten to the point where I had to get my husband to help me remove lids on cans because it was just too painful for me to do myself.This can opener is everything I hoped it would be and more. Now I just hope it continues to work as fantastically as it does right now. I LOVE THIS THING!!! My aging in place kitchen is just about complete. I have several reacher grabbers, 2 wonderful basket air fryers, a 6 quart Instant Pot, and the best can opener I could ever ask for. Now I just need to find the perfect affordable opener for lids on jars, and an easy to use lemon juicer.

I’m so glad I bought this can opener—I absolutely love it!As a 73-year-old woman with arthritis in my thumbs, it makes opening cans so much easier. At first, I kept holding onto the can while it was turning, and sometimes the lid wouldn’t come off. Then I reread the directions, which clearly say not to hold the can while it’s opening. Once I followed the instructions, it worked perfectly every time.If you have arthritis or weak hands, I highly recommend this can opener!

I have been using this can opener for about 7 months now and it's still working flawless. I've never had a can it couldn't open on the 1st try. What better than those openers that just cut the section out of the center of the top, this one cuts it at the folded edge and leave no sharp edges. I'll definitely be buying another one if this one craps out

Great can opener and no sharp lids. Small enough to fit and store on the counter, black color, speed is perfect, durable enough to hold a can, great value. It doesn't work for large cans. But perfect otherwise. It is electric no batteries needed. It is stable for regular can and stable.

It is useless for UAE electric socket!
