The Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook: Over 300 Delicious Whole Foods Recipes, Including Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Soy-Free, and Egg-Free Dishes

Not exactly as advertised
This book has a lot about nutrition and what’s healthy or not; the best cookware to use, how to stock your pantry, but the Recipe section is where it falls short. The reason I bought this book was to find eggless, soy-free, gluten free, sugar free recipes. Sugar is more easily replaced with readily available substitutes, but eggs, not so much. Almost every recipe in this book calls for eggs - but no suitable substitute is recommended. This was a disappointment. Would’ve given this 5 stars if the recipes more accurately matched with the book’s objective.

Good information
Has good information about nutrition. Only half the book is recipes. I would of liked to see some nutritional facts along with the recipes. Tried several recipes from the book so far and they are ok. The cook times in book surely don't match up with my brand new oven. I ended up burning my first batch of granola. I cut about 15 minutes off of it in the next batch and the granola came out pretty good. Overall it has good information on eating healthy but still lacks in other areas.

Great recipes and comprehensive diet information
I have had the original Whole Life Nutrition cookbook since it came out and I LOVE this new version. The original has been my most used cookbook over the years, hands down! This new book includes the very latest nutrition science, and I especially appreciated the information and perspective on all the latest diets including the paleo diet. There are new chapters, and several new recipes. There is a whole chapter on cultured foods. I believe there are over 300 recipes altogether. We really enjoyed the new Quinoa tortillas and the grain free and vegan Apple Walnut Crisp. This book still contains many of our old favorites like Red Lentil Dal, Coconut Vegetable Curry, Wild Salmon with Lemon, Garlic and Thyme, Home-Style Chicken and Vegetable Stew, Raw Energy Balls, and Lemon Blueberry Pudding (I first made this pudding nearly 9 years ago and still remember my first taste, it gave me the satisfaction to continue my first elimination diet!) There are several smoothie and salad recipes that are delicious, and have been a great launching point for a whole foods lifestyle.I did not notice the use of xanthan gum in the baked goods, which is okay with me. Instead I did see chia seeds, which we love to incorporate. The recipes have definitely been updated. I have been cooking with the Whole Life Nutrition recipes for years and I am confident that they are as creative and well developed as the previous versions. And the photos! So beautiful! I wasn't crazy about the index at first, but I am getting used to it, and I am still giving this book 5 stars because the recipes and information are the best I have found. I am very pleased to have this update on my favorite book :)

Delicious & Wholesome!!!
My husband got me the Nourishing Meals Cookbook for my birthday in February and pre-ordered me the Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook, which came in a couple of weeks ago. We LOVE the recipes from both cookbooks. Within a few days of getting the Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook, we made the beef stew with swiss chard, lentil and brown rice salad, and fish tacos (we used salmon) and we devoured all of them. The chocolate avocado frosting from the Nourishing Meals Cookbook is dangerously delicious -- I found myself eating it from the container with a spoon, and when used to frost the vanilla cake topped with fresh strawberries...YUM!!! We also can't get enough of the walnut brownies from Nourishing Meals Cookbook. I can't wait to make every recipe from both books and am really looking forward to trying the fermentation recipes from Whole Life Nutrition. In addition to the recipes, the books are full of helpful information about the role our diet plays in our overall health and wellness -- I'm reading my way through the first chapters of Whole Life Nutrition and am learning new things with every turn of the page.We can't say enough good things about the recipes that Alissa and Tom create. We try to stick to a whole foods diet as much as possible, and these recipes make it possible to do so without sacrificing flavor and variety.

Four Stars
I've had this cookbook for about a year and really appreciate having a cookbook with recipes using whole foods. Both my husband and I feel better when we eat non-processed foods, so I use this cookbook and supplement with ideas off the internet. I got it to try eliminating some allergens, specifically wheat. I am not a master cook and don't have time to run to the grocery store daily, so I appreciate the fairly easy to follow recipes. There are instructions for how to use alternative grains, dried beans, make broth and pickle foods (for probiotics). I think this gives some fairly budget-friendly alternatives that are also healthy and delicious. Using spices bought in bulk, I can make delicious curries that are a lot cheaper than buying a jar of sauce. My favorites are the curries, soups and salads. Some more challenging items I haven't attempted yet probably aren't practical for people who work full time. Some of the ingredients can be expensive, but I've found ways to substitute cheaper versions or just skip those.

Overall a great book for the health conscious (if you eat animal products) if looking for varied meals with gluten, dairy, and soy free options. We were surprised by the liberal use of coconut oil (sat fat) and salt. Some recipes are hard-to-follow for friends I have recommended the book to. Some of the baking recipes need work as they don't "come out" for the average person. I have had success, but cooking/baking is a hobby. Has a few must have recipes so it's worth the buy just for those. All in all, highly recommended (just watch out for all the sat fat and salt in some of the meals). These are recipes even the standard american diet (SAD) person will love to eat. All my relatives ask for the recipes if we make these dishes. So it's a fantastic transition book for folks moving from SAD to a more healthy lifestyle. If you are already super health conscious (or on a Fuhrman/Ornish/Greger-type nutrition plan), maybe get it from the library first or buy just for the dessert section?

Tasty
As yet I have not tried any of the recipes but have spent quite a bit of time reading them and feel that they will be easy to do, not fiddly and also they sound as if they will be delicious.

Accessible and sensibly healthy recipes
I love this cook book. Its recipes make sense to me: they are healthy, uncomplicated and are not swept up in health-food hype. I would recommend for anyone who enjoys cooking delicious, wholefoods recipes.

Great book!
Really good resource if, like me, you're interested in trying to eliminate toxins from your life. Or if you think you might have a food intolerance. Thoroughly researched and well written. Arrived very quickly and in brand new condition.
