Good practice
This disappointed me a bit as the title implied an absolute beginner would learn something from using this book. I found excercises for using a pencil, but other than line drawing, I didn’t find useful drawing excercises. Someone with more skill than I might find this more useful.

Everyone wants to borrow it!
This is extremely helpful in starting out with the basics. Drawings are turning out a lot better, and more realistic. Thank you!

Absolutely *not* for the Absolute Beginner
There were some things I was able to take from this book and use, but about 98% of it has nothing to do with the basics of learning to draw, and just covers different styles without more than a page on how those styles are done. The first 15 or so pages cover a few basic things, and that's where it ends. What examples there are in the book for basic concepts of drawing are so complicated, it's impossible to practice. If I may be so honest, the book comes across more as a vehicle for the author to show case her work rather than an actual teaching tool. I'm going to be looking at other books for actual beginners, and no, I wouldn't recommend buying this book if you're actually a beginner.

Just what I needed as a beginner. Excellent publication, thoughtfully packaged to prevent damage via post.

Easy to follow and useful tips. The best thing is that after trying out the techniques explained in the book and seeing the results you begin to feel you can actually draw! Awesome feeling!

I've just started working through this book and find the author has done a great job in illustrating exactly what needs to be done in the various drawing exercises. I'm what might be called a "sermi-beginner" as tapping into my family's artistic roots is my retirement project. I've been working through various art courses over the past six months, but some of them were getting far to complicated. So far, this one is just the ticket, so I'm looking forward to continuing along with the author through the winter months.
