Building WordPress Themes from Scratch Paperback – February 20, 2014

This book is a very good introduction to writing a theme. It goes through creating the main page, side pages, and even custom formats using an existing HTML site made dynamic by adding Wordpress functions. However, the formatting on Kindle looks like someone just hit the convert button and didn't check it over. The code is formatted like part of the text, and footnotes appear in the middle of pages. Also, the lack of an explanation of how to include comments is a glaring omission. The author stated that he and his clients are usually not interested in comments, but it's an important topic when writing a book. Still, I was able to get a lot of my theme together using this book as a reference.

Very good book if your'e trying to build exactly the theme that the author is using for his examples. And some of it can be adopted for your real life projects too. But it leaves out way too much of what you really need to know.And there's formatting issues, it doesn't render very well on a Kindle.The author is using footnotes in the worst possible way: sometimes they're extremely useful, sometimes they're not, and sometimes he uses them for puns and jokes.

Great Book for beginners learning to build Wordpress themes.

This book is a hot mess. The formatting is messed up with large blocks of text in the wrong place. The author employs not only accepted bad practices for Wordpress but for web design in general. His code is not even current. His final theme as downloaded and activated does not function.

Una buona guida per cominciare ad orientarsi in modo pratico, seguendo l'esempio della costruzione di un sito partendo dalla versione statica delle pagine html. Peccato per i problemi di formattazione della versione kindle. A volte le note si mischiano ai contenuti e senza i file di esempio può risultare più complicato capire alcune parti dove viene scritto anche del codice.Per il resto, lo ritengo un ottimo punto di partenza per cominciare a usare Wordpress in modo consapevole.
