First time with hearing aid
I have had high frequency hearing loss for about 40 years (I'm 60 now) and after saying what a million times to my wife, I finally decided to see if hearing aids might be beneficial. I had a doctor exam confirming I'm a good candidate. After researching, I decided not to go for the hearing aids that my health care plan provides because they are the kind that are in the back of the ear and they were 2 to 4 times as expensive and obviously would entail more hassles with visiting doctors and having obvious hearing aids..After two days: They are pretty comfortable and discrete. It seems like I will get used to them just fine but slight discomfort in ear but much less so than ear plugs I have worn. They still can be a bit itchy when I walk or move and there is some feedback but it is not a big issue. I'm already growing used to it. My voice sounds weird but presumably that will lessen. I hear consonants quite a bit more now. I found out that I drag my feet when I walk and I could hear that very easily now. After a week: I think I have sensitive ears but I'm getting more used to them. Sometimes I take them out for a few seconds but they are easy to remove and reinstall. I am a bird watcher, a birder, and I was literally stunned at how well I could hear birds. I have grown used to only hearing the closest birds. Now I'm hearing quite distant birds clearly. The feeling was a bit like when I first tried on glasses and saw the world much more clearly. I also noticed that I'm more confident in talking to other people because I'm more confident I will hear them. I wasn't really anticipating that benefit. After 10 days: Really I've become more adjusted and quite satisfied that I made a good decision. I can hear much better and I usually forget I have them in. I have to touch my ears to see if they are there. I kind of feel like I have super powers because I usually keep them at program 2 but if I want to really bump up my hearing like when I go birding, I can put them to program 4 very easily, and I get to take them out when I go to sleep. Now I have had them for about 3 months. My ears are mostly adjusted but they are easy to take out if I want to give my ears a break. I usually forget they are in and I have to touch my ear to make sure. It is hard to exaggerate how much better I hear birds when I go birding. It is amazing. I hear people much better too. I highly recommend them.

You Get What You Pay For
I really wanted to like these Eargo Neos. However, they lack basic features like auto volume control, squeal, ambient noise reduction. EVERYTHING is loud. A light wind sounds like a hurricane and and the background din in a restaurant resembles an angry mob.Yes, they are rechargeable, but you get four volume settings and no other controls. They are comfortable but after six weeks one aid has died completely. Guess what? Past the return date.Any way, if you're looking to simplify buying a hearing aid, don't spend $2300 on a unit that does the same things a a $500 unit does. These are sound amplifiers, NOT intelligent hearing aids. And I REALLY wanted them to work. Big disappointment.

Think these are designed more for moderate hearing loss...
I wanted so very much to love these. Perhaps my hearing loss is too severe to benefit from this type of aid, not sure. I do know I have used other hearing aids along the way that enabled me to hear conversations well, but not with these. I still struggled. As for the comfort? I did find my ears were sore after wearing. To be fair, other in the ear hearing aids hurt WHILE wearing. These hurt my inner ear after removing them for the day. They are discreet. Literally unnoticeable. Very, very dainty so one could question how long before they broke, but..... The tap your ear to change the programming? Pretty nifty little trick. Perhaps if they were volume controlled? I would have fared much better. Just didn't do the trick for me. I wanted them to but the search continues!

I am happy with my Eargos! Good tutorials. Good customer follow-up.
It's been just over a year since I got my Eargos, and I am so happy with them! They are comfortable to wear, and I no longer strain to understand conversations! I like the "voice" that tells me I've put them in correctly and at the setting I want. (My Eargo coach suggested I try the "number 2" setting which eliminated the tinny sound I heard when I first got them.) They are easy to clean and charge. The portable charger is compact and a charge lasts several days. yay. I use a good light when I clean and sometimes check them with a magnifying glass. At the beginning of 2020, when I finally realized that I couldn't hear the TV well unless the closed captioning was on and normal conversations were difficult and tiring, I knew it was time to bite the bullet and get fitted for hearing aids. I made an appointment to see a hearing specialist, but then Covid came to town and the appointment got cancelled. I started to look around the web. I saw the Eargo web page, looked at all the videos, and then looked at every review I could find. Since I do wear glasses, and was about to be wearing a mask, in the ear type aids seemed like a good idea. The 45 day trial period sounded more reasonable than just 30 days, so I ordered my Eargos at the beginning of October. There's a learning time to adjust to the new sounds - floorboards creaking, paper rattling, water running - that were a surprise to me. I had never used earbuds, etc. , so having something in my ears was strange at first. The big help was the phone call I had with my assigned Eargo "counselor" after a couple of weeks. She took plenty of time to go through my concerns, changed the custom volume settings so I could get clearer speech without the "bass" effect, gave me helpful cleaning advice, walked me through using the App, etc. etc. Because I am "staying home - staying safe", following the Covid guidelines in my state, I have not experienced crowds, restaurants, movie theaters, or parties --so I have not had occasion to try the other settings available to me on the Eargos, but when the time comes, I'm sure I'll be able to figure them out (or get help if I need it). I use speaker phone when I use the phone. If that's uncomfortable, I just take the Eargos out while I'm on a call.To sum up, my hearing is vastly improved, and I feel confident I will continue to use (and be grateful for) my Eargos.
