I have had several pairs of these shorts and my first with 7 years wear is still going strong. These shorts get better and better with age. Canvas at the beginning of course is a bit stiff for my tastes but look great. So very well made and day one it's obvious these are no kidding around made to last. After the first year and a hundred or so washing's they turn into super favorites very soft and reliable. From going out to dinner to putting a bucket of balls in the pockets giving a tennis lesson they just get cooler feeling with age. It is stains that end up relegating them to home only use. So be careful the first 5 years of constant wear as you will find yourself needing to break in another pair. Takes 7 years or so to get them to 6 star status but they start off being a favorite and get better. 7 years later they are still awesome. Yes they are tactical but more than that great shorts.

This review is for the 5.11 Tactical Men's 9-Inch Work Shorts, Cotton Canvas Fabric, style 73285.This is my third pair of these shorts. They wear well, have straps and a D ring for keys. The small side pocket is right for stowing a knife or magazine for your pistol. Unlike some cargo style shorts, the pockets are deep, so stuff doesn't spill out of your pockets when you sit down. The stretch waistband, gives flexibility when working.

I love the fit and durability of these shorts. I ordered a size 38 but my waist is between 36-37 and they fit me perfectly. I did this based on other reviews that said they run slightly small. I hiked all over Switzerland and Italy inn these shorts and they are extremely comfortable. I would definitely buy them again and probably will before summer is over

I really like these 5.11 Tactical shorts. I would have scored these shorts 5 stars, except for two things. 1) These shorts are exactly like the 5.11 Tactical Pants (#74251), except for the fact that the pants have 7 belt loops and the shorts only have 5 belt loops. Those extra two belt loops offer just a little better fit and support and I am not sure why they were removed when offering the shorts. 2) For whatever reason, these shorts seem to shrink more overall than the 5.11 Tactical Pants. I wash both shorts and pants in hot water and dry them on normal heat and the shorts have shrunk noticeably more than the pants. Otherwise these shorts are amazing. They are quality made, with an elastic waistband for additional comfort. They are made with heavy cotton canvas that has bartacking and a double reinforced seat area. Just like the pants, these shorts have 7 pockets, that are large enough to get large hands into and they also have a pocket on the front left leg that will accommodate a phone or anything else that you want to have accessible but protected. I have tried a dozen different brands of cargo shorts and to date, these are the best for the money. I will definitely buy these again when the ones I have wear out.

Great shorts. Fit well, well constructed, nice features. I have a waist size in between the even sizes offered. Ordered an inch up, and it's perfect, could have gone down an inch and would've been fine too with the elastic. The only drawback is the side cargo pockets are smaller than I expected. I have a large phone, and sometimes put my CCH in a side cargo pocket, and neither will fit in these. Otherwise, I couldn't ask for anything more in these shorts.

Well built. Worth the money

Let me start by addressing the color of the Fire Navy version. The shorts are actually a DARKER Navy blue than depicted in the photo. That's a good thing. I bought these to replace a pair of the same shorts that I'd ruined, and hesitated to make this purchase because I didn't want a lighter color. Was happy to receive them and see the color was identical to my old pair I have several other brands/models of "tactical" shorts, but these are almost the only ones I wear for a couple of reasons. One is the length - the cut is above the knee. I HATE the ones that extend below the knee because they irritate the top of my calves. I also like that the front pockets are sufficiently deep for concealed carry of a small .380 (or similar) pistol. A note on this - I also have this version in khaki, however, my piece - even holstered - "prints" a little too much for my taste. The imprint is MUCH less obvious - barely noticeable in fact - with the Navy. I imagine this would be true with the black as well. Will be getting one in black soon and maybe even another in Fire Navy, while the other brands in my drawer will soon make their way to charity.

My purchase on these 5.11 tactical shorts, is a prime example of why you should always read measurements on clothing before ordering.The material, just as any 5.11 clothing, was high quality, however, these shorts are too short! If they had been dark blue, they would have been identical to shorts that you'd see a mail man wearing, except a lot wider. Being tan colored, they look like something you'd see on a overweight safari hunter. They're cut wide and above the knees. My wife, after laughing, referred to them as old man shorts. I bought these on a clearance rack (40% off) at local sports shop with a no return policy, so obviously I didn't return them, and atleast tried them out. Just not my taste.Now, don't get me wrong. They serve their purpose. Plenty of pockets, but nothing you're going to conceal a small handgun in. One thing to be careful about, is putting away your wallet. The loop strap on the back feels like the top of your back pocket and its very easy to feel as if you're dropping it in the pocket only to find it on the floor behind you (this happened twice the only day I wore them and thx to an honest person who informed me of it)Like I wrote.. these shorts are made of strong quality but just too short and wide for my taste. If you're short to begin with, they may fit you better. I'm 5'10 and they're above my knees. Even thoughthey fit good in the waste, they still seem so wide looking. If you're looking for the more up to date, stylish cargo type shorts, go with the Blackhawks. They're not much longer but not as wide, and they have a pocket that I can drop and conceal my Springfield XDS in.

Now what they were designed for, but these shorts are awesome for golf! Can fit everything you could possible need (tees, balls, divot repair tool, glove) in the various pockets and still move around freely. Material and stitching quality is top notch.

The best shorts in the world

It's the second pair I bought. (First one is the khaki colored one)... Love this one also... Solid product. Sadly, this one came with a orange stain on it. It goes thru the shorts. Will not buy another one again unless I can trade this one with another one.

El producto es de una calidad excelente pero las medidas simplemente no le atino , pedí mi talla la primera vez mi talla y me quedo pequeño, esta vez pedí una talla mas grande de las piernas me quedo pequeno y de la cintura bien, definitivamente no le atino a las tallas de 5.11 , raro porque en los pantalones de la misma marca uso mi talla normal y vienen perfectos.
