EMSCO Group Deluxe Rain Barrel Downspout Diverter Kit – Improves Rain Barrel Aesthetics – Prevents Standing Water and Mosquitoes

I put one of these in one of the downspouts in the back of my house, and attached it to a clean 270 gallon IBC tote. That was a week ago. The tote is now 2/3 full! Works perfectly!

Generally works as expected. During light to moderate rains the water flows to the rain barrel or down through the downspout. However, during heavy rains the water can't all go get through the inner opening fast enough and overflows out the top of the box. Maybe some caulk around the top of the box against the downspout as another reviewer suggested might stop this problem...haven't tried that yet.

Why did you pick this product vs others?:The hoses last 2 to 3 years in a hot climate.

I hooked these up to my downspouts in about 10 min. I cut the tubes to length and ran them to my barrels. The only draw back is that the rubber grommets get brittle pretty quick.

It leaks a bit around the connections and you have to make sure that it stays connected every once in a while. Heavy rainfall will push the hose loose from the gutter piece. Not bad for the price. Works as designed as long as you keep an eye on it.

I am embarrassed to disclose that my earlier negative review was premature. After writing a very negative review, I removed the diverter from my downspout and discovered the reason for failure was that leaves had clogged the device, and that is why it did perform as advertised. After cleaning, the device did perform and diverted water from the gutter to the rain barrel.I am only giving it 4 stars, as the tube to the rain barrel should be a larger diameter, to allow greater volume into the barrel. When it rains, a fair amount does go into the barrel, but a lot still continues down the gutter downspout.

The hose is too stiff unless you have a direct line out the side to your rain barrel, the hose kinks and stops the flow of water. You cannot put ANY curves let alone a bend in the hose.Contrary to the information, your measurements cannot be off a millimeter or the water will not flow. Simple math and gravity mean it must be 100% level. Unless your rain barrel is on a concrete pad and you have your gutter attached above and below the diverter, any movement changes the height. Barrel starts to get full of water, it lowers a little. Run gutter not secured nearby the diverter it moves a little. Consequently anything other than perfect bases and perfect alignment and this does not work.Even when perfectly level, it only works for a few minutes because the instructions don't take into account the hose diameter and how the water is going to flow into the barrel.Instructions on Amazon site are for a snow shovel.Do NOT Buy!
