A Must-Have for the Cube Addict
This cube is based on the same kernel as the Rubik's Cube (3x3x3) and so has center posts that don't change relative to the others. The center cubies, in other words, can't be re-arranged. That makes this cube easier technically to solve than the Rubik's Revenge (4x4x4). The Revenge has no center post, so part of your solution is to get the centers right. All that being said, the Professor is a good challenge, and a lot of fun to play with. It is big enough that it feels like you could break it quite easily if you try to make a twist without perfectly aligning the sides first. But if you handle it with respect, you'll have no real problems. It took me a day or so to solve it, though I wouldn't say that's common. If you've not yet figured out the Cube, this will be a significantly more difficult endeavor. I am a Cube Addict though, and plan to purchase the 6x6x6 and the 7x7x7 when I have the extra money. If you love puzzles, and you're not prone to throwing something through the television screen when you get frustrated with it, then give this a shot.

Simply cool...
Reading other reviews I noticed that people are not pleased with the durability of the Professor Cube. However, in the package it states that is NOT for speedcubing. Maybe is a little pricey, but that only makes me take more care of it. Durability if just fine. The stickers are another story. After a few weeks of constant usage, they start to peel off their transparent cover and the colors begin to fade. Just make sure you are gentle with the cube and you'll enjoy plenty of hours of fun.

Another winner from Rubik's
This is a great puzzle for anyone over the age of ten. Anyone younger would probably get frustrated with it too easily. Overall it very fun to solve, even if it does get mundane after you figure out the technique. It obviously takes more time to solve than the classic 3x3 cube, as well as the 4x4 cube, but once you know how, it definitely isn't any harder than either of them. The cube comes very stiff (hard to turn) from the factory, but after you play with it a while it tends to loosen up. The only gripe I have is about how easy it can be to "lock" the slices by not having them lined up right, but once you get used to it, you have the problem less and less. Suggested for anyone who enjoys a good challenge!

Just be careful
I don't know if it's a matter of defective items, or differing ideas of what it means to treat a cube gently, or what, but I've had none of the problems reported here with this cube breaking so far. One cubie did start to pop loose one time, but I pressed it back in and it was fine. Yes, this is less robust than the order 4 (Rubik's Revenge) cube which in turn is less sturdy than the order 3 (Rubik's Cube); yes, you do have to be more careful with it; no, you can't speed cube with it. But mine isn't prone to breaking under gentle use. Nor are the stickers peeling off.I figured Rubik's Cube out on my own, many years ago (not from a book), and when I bought the order 4 cube I found there was much that carried over from the order 3, but there were new problems to be solved too. Proceeding then to the order 5 (Professor) cube, it seems to me there's nothing really new if you have a good understanding of how to attack the order 3 and 4 cubes. There are more cubies to deal with, but nothing fundamentally different. I unscrambled mine the first time in under an hour -- and that's with treating the puzzle gently, and my own lack of speed generally, and a few times I made mistakes and messed up some of the progress I've made. So, if you're looking for a new level of intellectual challenge, this isn't it. And, obviously, it's not for you if you're obsessed with speed. On the other hand, if you just like unscrambling the lower order cubes just for the mental calisthenics of it, this is a good puzzle. And obviously if you're into pretty patterns, or if you're simply a cube completist, you'll want an order 5.Just treat it gently, and I think you'll be happy.

Great Product
I bought this Rubik's Cube for my 11 year old grandson, he loves it! He really wants a 6 by 6 cube but Rubik's does not make one that size yet, wish they would! I bought another brand that size and it fell apart within hours! No company makes the cube as well as Rubik's

Not like previous reviews
This Cube came in a very timely manner, very clean, very usable right out of the box. IF you are gentle with it the cube works great. The complaints come from people trying to speed the cube without getting a feel for it. Take your time the first couple solves, and once used to it, the cube will flow much easier. Stickers wore off on all my other cubes (rubicks brand and all other brands) so I expect they will do the same here.

Caution buying this one
I finally learned how to solve the Rubiks cube last year. My wife purchased this cube as well as a Lanlan 2x2 and 4x4 for me for Christmas, which are great. This Rubik's brand one was extremely stiff coming out of the box. I'm not a speed cuber by any means, so I'm careful with all of my cubes. None of the cubies have ever popped while I was solving any of my cubes. I worked with it and worked with it and it was just starting to loosen up. It was starting to be a fun cube. Then this morning one of the corner cubes broke off. Just to be clear, not popped out, broke off. I am very disappointed. Next cubes will probably be Lanlan or I'll just fork out the extra for a good v-cube. Thanks anyway.
