Buy It. Buy Everything They Do!
This disc is taken from two live shows held in Petaluma, California, before a screaming, enthusiastic audience. The band responded accordingly and delivered great, high energy performances, including violin accompaniment on some of the cuts. Most of the songs will be familiar to DM3 fans, having appeared on earlier albums, but there are a few surprises thrown in. Casual fans of the band might not need these additional versions. But the music, as always, is performed impeccably and with great passion and energy. If you're not yet a fan of this band, you should be. These guys have taken swing, country western, folk, and a hint of country blues, punked them up, updated the lyrics to fit the times we live in, and created something that, while paying homage to the aforementioned styles, is incredibly creative and original. They are the best band I've heard come up in many years. This old fart has already seen them a bunch of times, and I'll be going again next time they're in town. Buy every single thing these folks have done, including this disc!

Great Band, Great Album
The Devil Makes Three may be my favorite band currently playing. I'm an old punk that slowly drifted towards country and americana via folk punk. For me, DM# may be the perfect synthesis between traditional americana and punk influence. Think of old time country, bluegrass, swamp blues, and punk thrown in a blender and you have a vague idea of the sound. Their songs are catchy, witty, and just a great listen. This album is a great jump on point if you haven't given them a listen. They're definitely a band that should be heard live, and this album may be the best thing short of that.

They call that religion?
Nothing but love for this little bad. I've seen them live 3 times now and each time was better than the last. They are a live band first, one of the few bands that actually sound better in person. Been a fan since the first TDM3 release, and Pete Bernard's solo stuff. I would recommend this album to anyone who digs string instruments, outstanding lyrics and wonderful harmonies. I am a 40 something who loves classic rock, metal and hip hop.

Road goes on forever&the party never ends
I've seen these guys every time they've played 707. This captures the party they bring, and boy do they! If you can't to see 'em live this would be next best. Live or studio these folks are so tight and fun I got everything recorded, still more fun live

Their musicianship is awesome and undeniable IMHO
I'm not a country/bluegrass fan as a rule. I purchased this cd after stumbling across Devil Makes Three on YouTube. Wow! Their musicianship is awesome and undeniable IMHO; and the cd is solid from beginning to end. I may have to rethink my musical bias!

A solid cd, but far from my fave.
A local band covers Old Number 7, and I was hoping for the definitive version from this cd. I think that I prefer the local band's version better, but all art is a matter of taste. Kudos for DMT for pushing the song out there.

Great band, horrible shopping experience
I recommend everything Devil Makes Three ever made, but don't buy it here, go to their website and buy it direct from the band.Amazon's "free mp3 version of the album" requires that you install their stupid Itunes-alike music player and shopping app in order to download. And the stupid app doesn't let you decide where to put your files, it doesn't even tell you where it puts them, you have to search your computer to find them.Buy anything you can find by this band, they rock. But don't buy your music on Amazon, it's not worth it.

It takes two to tango and three to swing
I've only recently discovered The Devil Makes Three being one of the great advantages of using Spotify. They are, as the name suggests, a band of three Musicians, Cooper mac Bean of banjo and guitar, Pete Barnhard on acoustic guitar and the excellent Lucia Turino on upright bass. Now I have found them I can't get enough! This is amplified acoustic instruments being stretched to the giddy limits producing a snappy rhythms against strong songs with sub cultural and yet humorous lyrics. Some songs are allegorical, some are metaphorical others are just about the sort of life style you probably won't understand if you go to work in pin striped suit. Stomp and smash is a swinging record of their live performances at point in time. For this album they are joined by a fiddle player which although enhances the sound is not essential to the DTM3 experience. All the songs on this CD are not just good they are memorable and will have you foot tapping and humming the tunes for hours afterwards. Some songs are more serious than others some songs are faster than others my favourites include the tongue in cheek 'they call that religion' which ridicules hypocrisy, 'this life' for a reality check but delivered with pure joy, 'do wrong right' sound advice to me! 'Old number 7' and 'Graveyard' . I had better stop here otherwise I will be naming al 11 tracks. Check out some of their other live performances on youtube and you just cant help fall for the excellent musicianship, camaraderie and pure joy of playing and creating music together.

live
