Great for kids 8-10
This is a fun little novel that is great for kids I would say ages 8-10. Our 8 year old loved reading this book together. Great story line and full of real life struggles, emotions, and how best friends are made. Highly recommend this book!

My daughter loves this author!
If your children love dogs and a good storie this book is for you. I read this to my daughter nightly and she looks forward to it. I do think it’s geared a little more towards girls. My daughter is 7 and loves animals. Rap dogs.

Fun Summer Adventure Novel
Mavis is always moving houses, towns, & schools following her mother's next “big” job. It’s not until Mavis lands in Magnolia Estates that she is determined to finally have a permanent home with a real best friend. Mavis is loud, fun, & spontaneous and when she meets Her soon to be best friend she realizes she is completely the opposite. Rose is timid and mild mannered and her best friend is the neighborhood gate keeper, Mr. Duffy. Mr. Duffy hasn’t been himself ever since his dog passed away, so Mavis and Rose set out to cheer Mr. Duffy up.This was the first Barbara O'Connor book I’ve read and I really enjoyed it! Wish has been on my TBR forever, but it got bypassed when I picked this up for @booksamillion Kids Bookclub. This is such a simple but fierce book about friendship & I would highly suggest this to any kid.

A lengthy read
I like the book but it’s a bit difficult for a seven year old to stay abreast of all the characters. It’s three main characters, plus their parents, other friends, and a dog. My granddaughter needed help keeping up.

Making Friends
Something I’ve noticed about favorite writers is that I think they’re writing about me. Maybe not today’s me, or even yesterday’s me, but me someday. That’s what Barbara O’Connor does in Wonderland: The Novel. I found myself in all her main characters (yes, even the dog’s.) Poor little rich girl Rose is in need of a friend. Gypsy girl Mavis, whose mom just can’t find the right job, or man, or life, is never in a place long enough for her to make a friend. There’s Mr Duffy, who is not only mourning his wife but also his dog, and the runway greyhound Henry who only wants a true home. That’s all you need to know. If you’re like me, you won’t put the book down until you find out what happens to these star crossed friends.

Sweet, insightful book for readers at all levels
Wish by Barabara O'Connor was one of my favorite reads last year, and so I was very excited for her new novel. It did not disappoint. I loved the chapters written from Henry the dog's point of view. I loved the difference between the two main characters, Mavis and Rose, and how the story was told through both of their perspectives. This is a sweet story about unlikely friendships, finding the courage to stand up for yourself, and what it means to be a friend. As a reading intervention teacher, I love that this story is written simply enough for all of my readers to enjoy, but yet touches on deep, complex human issues. This story can reach readers of all abilities and ages- perfect for any library shelf. #LitReviewCrew
