My Life in Yankee Stadium: 40 Years As a Vendor and Other Tales of Growing Up Somewhat Sane in The Bronx

A Bronx Tale
A real fun book to read, especially for Bronxites like myself who spent so much time going to Yankee Stadium before it became unaffordable. I remember Stewie as a fun and very accommodating beer vendor who always greeted us nicely and always made sure our cups were not empty. But besides all that, this will bring back lots of memories and it really had me laughing out loud at some of the stories and one liners told in this fantastic book. And it’s not only about Yankee Stadium. It’s also about a kid growing up in the Bronx who ends up pursuing an acting career while being a full time vendor. No wasted talent here. Bravo Stewie!

Good book
“ Hey getcha beer here”! Ever wonder who is behind the voice of those hawking hot dogs, beer, cracker jacks at a ball game? Well, read this book to find out! The stage is probably the greatest ballpark in the history of baseball, New York’s own Yankee Stadium. Your tour guide/author, Stewart Zully is the man with the knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes. From getting a good item to sell or, a lousy item. Seriously who wants to lug ice cream bars around in October. Anyway, a good book, quick to read and engaging.

Not Really a Baseball Book. A Memoir.
I gotta be honest, about halfway through I was kind of disappointed. I thought I might get a "behind the curtain" look at Yankee Stadium and, more importantly, the Yankees players. There really isn't much of that. But as I kept on reading, I couldn't help but like the author and his clear passion for a job many fans take for granted (or worse). As a blue collar guy myself, I appreciated the hard work attitude and the admission that it took him a while to take pride. It really was a touching book, in spite of not being quite what I expected.

Very entertaining story told by a witty author
My Life in Yankee Stadium is unlike any book I have ever read. The author is very open and forthcoming sharing his experiences and he really brings you in and makes you feel comfortable and like you know him. This book touches on a lot of interesting topics; family life growing up, baseball, life in the entertainment industry and many more. Although the author has some remarkable encounters (who else has been able to argue with Larry David in a comedy club? Or knows Jack Nicholson?), he makes you feel like they could have been your experiences as well and he truly takes you along for the ride!

Slow reading
A bit slow at times. Read it for enjoyment. Thought it might contain more about the job.

A Nostalgic Trip
A wonderful nostalgic look into baseball from a unique viewpoint. Growing up an Angel fan, I hated the Yankees but vividly remember when they came to town. Those games were always exciting and that series in 1979 when the Angels swept the Yankees in Anaheim was one of the most memorable weekends of my childhood. This book transcends the love/hate relationship so many baseball fans have with the Yanks. This book is made up so stories about real people in the stands selling souvenirs, programs and beer. It's all heart and every baseball fan will enjoy the stories that Zully puts on the page for everyone to read.

Doing a Kid's Job
Decent description of life as a vendor in Yankee Stadium. Author used vending job as a base of income to pursue acting career. He tells of absolute commitments to working games and missing weddings, barbecues, and parties for the sake of an extra buck. Ends book bemoaning the future of vending job, which most ex- vendors did for a year or two when they were fifteen or sixteen years old.
