The books compliment each other, regardless of your learning level. I'm a beginner violin student. So far it has helped me finally begin to understand the bow hold. These books will help tremendously for those who are serious about learning the violin and or self teaching, to build a solid foundation along the journey of learning the violin. Fischer does a wonderful job of explaining in simple details with lots of photos to demonstrate. Thank You Simon for accomplished works. I highly recommend all of his books👍🏾 Review: Absolutely worth it for the self-taught. - Love this book, and all of Fischer's books. They're so detailed. This will provide years of material to work and rework. Nothing beats one-on-one lessons, but this is pretty close if you're self-teaching on any level. And it certainly would supplement your in-person lessons, if you're taking them.

A True Classic
Excellent resource, both for pupils learning with a teacher and those who try to learn without a teacher.

Justly Highly Popular for Beginners
The current bible for beginners and even better than his Violin Basics, though both overlap with each other. The consensus is to opt for The Violin Lesson over his Violin Basics, which one reviewer characterized as violin basics for the intermediate student.

Great education in this book.
I love this book. I learn something every paragraph. I read with a pen and highlighter and every page is green and has comments. Really good book for musicians at every stage of playing the violin.

You’ll find this useful.
Some people have analytic minds and can break down a skill into its smallest parts no matter how complicated. Simon Fischer has that kind of mind. Almost every possible topic related to the left and right hand is treated (except bariolage which I could not locate, but it’s a big book with loads of photo illustrations. When I saw it for the first time, I was afraid it would not stay open on a music stand, but since it was stitched in small segments, it does stay open. Very easy to understand and accessible in its tone. I recommend it highly.

What you need for self-teaching
I don't have time to take violin lessons right now in my life. Usually books and videos you find have you play something with a little sprinkling of advice about how to hold the violin and etc. I used the Suzuki books but they never went into any detail about proper bow holding, pressure, angle of the bow, etc. This book does that in spades. Also, if you are more interested in the violin for creativity (avant garde, jazz, , etc) rather than just classical playing this is amazing for that. Even in the first few pages of the first lesson I have drawn out some beautiful sound from the violin and felt more like the violin was doing what I was imagining rather than squeaks and grinding.

Excellent!
Superb and clear teaching of basic techniques with a very supportive approach. Would use as a reference “textbook” for those starting lessons or as a stand alone guide for more experienced players to re-establish basic skills.

El producto llegó rápido, bastantes días antes de lo previsto. El libro es de lectura obligada para aquellos que nos dedicamos al violín / viola y, sobre todo, para los docentes, los que enseñamos a tocar el instrumento. Muy recomendable.

It has taken me a little while to get around to picking this up after buying it, but what a revelation. Although only part way through, I am stunned at what I have learned already. The writer takes a logical and analytical approach to playing and listening. Such simple things as acknowledging that you have to make physical adjustments in the way you hold the violin to take account of your physical stature! My last two violin teachers -and the reason I stopped playing - tried to force me into positions that were not natural for me. No wonder I gave up. This book makes me look forward to picking up my violin.
