Forget about the steel calipers for over £20! Get one of these for a good bargain!
Having already bought a pair of calipers made of steel for over £20, I was browsing Amazon one day when I saw these on sale for £2.49. Now common sense would tend to make you think that my set of £20 steel calipers would be much better than these for £2.49! I've seen so many of these non-metal calipers for sale, but never thought to buy them and test them against my steel ones. At £2.49 though, why not! So I added them to my order and the following day set about comparing them.Guess what?! On every item that I tested, there was NO DIFFERENCE in measurements! Yes ok, they lack any ability to lock the slider in place like my steel ones, but we're talking nearly £19 difference in price. The LCD looks identical, so I can only assume that it's the body that's different. I know that steel will be more hard wearing than these, but at this price, with a bit of TLC, these are a no-brainer!So if you are looking for a set of calipers on a budget or just looking for a bargain, forget about the steel versions and snag one of these! If you found this review helpful, can you please help me by clicking on the helpful button. Just the job
I've had one of the plastic analogue cousins of this caliper for a number of years now and it's served me well but my eyes, these days, are not so good at reading the vernier. This digital caliper eliminates the guesswork and is quite adequate for my purposes - mainly checking such things as drill, bolt and washer sizes.I did notice that the movement was a tad sticky, as has been pointed out in other reviews but I fixed this by a judicious application of some silicone grease applied sparingly along the back of the depth probe and along the channel it runs along. Not a perfect fix but good enough for most practical purposes.Excellent value.

This item was so cheap I purchased it to explore if I could remove the glass to replace the panel in a conciderably more expensive stainless steel version I had owned for years but recently damaged. However I made the repair with plastic sheeting so didn't disassemble this item. I prefer my stainless steel original but will keep this as a.spare. it is one decimal place less precise (tenth of a mm rather than one hundredth), it doesn't have a thumb wheel or a locking mechanism. The later is a bit of a pain as any movement will turn it on - at least it has an auto shut-off.But for the price it's excellent.

OK but .....
It is probably worth the money but having had a metal digital vernier for many years, this does seem rather flimsy. It certainly doesn't provide the level of precision/reliability that the previous gauge provided and the lack of a lock screw to hold the measurement in place is a serious disadvantage. Should have known better and gone for something more solidly built.

A tool to avoid
It's not often that I do this, but when this item arrived, I put it in the bin within 10 minutes!I gave this item one star rating, that's only because I couldn't submit this review without selecting one - that should be looked at. This didn't deserve a rating at all. This tool, is nothing like a precision tool as depicted. It was a flimsy, plastic item that was more at home in a lucky dip at a carnival than anything else. The jaws would not close flush, the readout did not display the same reading twice for any piece being measured, no matter how many times you measured it and mine arrived with a distinct curve of its length.Avoid this item......

Value for money, I've just ordered some more.
Very good value for a basic but reasonably accurate Vernier ... to be honest, not that much more expensive than a replacement battery. For is, we are measuring pipe sections, so absolute accuracy is not the prime need ... if you are in fine tolerance engineering, you will be buying something a little pricier and hopefully calibrated for accuracy. There is no case or lock screw ... at the moment, the action is firm enough for the lack of a lock screw to not be an issue ...

Plastic digital vernier caliper - £1.97 including postage & mine came from Laos!
I do have Mitutoyo digital and gauge calipers but this is ideal for providing quick measurement and is surprisingly accurate against the Mitutoyo and a set of feeler gauges bearing in mind that it is to just one place of the decimal point. What doesn't appear to have been mentioned - there are a large number of reviews - is the advantages of it being fibre glass reinforced plastic. Ideal for measuring watches and jewellery etc that you don't want to scratch and also battery dimensions, particularly button cells.Great inexpensive little tool. I will be buying another to keep in the car.Martin

Battery life issue.
I decided to wait before writing a review. I'm so glad I did. This product worked perfectly from day one and I couldn't believe how useful it is. Then after a couple of months it started to give false readings. I thought that the battery might need replacing, so after a brand new battery was a fitted all seemed well. Then after a couple of weeks it went again then again.I'm so disappointed with this item I can only assume that even though the display is off it's still using power.I will look into a better quality one to replace it.Maybe it's a one off but maybe not. It's your call. All I can say is that ' You get what you pay for '
