Heavy gauge stainless steel
I live in Ohio. Ohio has a record of periodically changing the dimensions of it's motorcycle license plates. Between my wife and I, we have 4 motorcycles in our garage. Between those 4 motorcycles we have three different sized Ohio license plates. The 2001 Triumph Trophy 1200 that I recently purchased has a plastic rear fender with an integrated license plate mounting surface. It was a good fit for the Ohio license plates from a decade ago but is to narrow for Ohio's current motorcycle license plates. The mounting holes on the current license plates are 2 inches further apart than previous Ohio license plates. Consequently, the new license plates mounting holes are beyond the outside edge of that moulded fender license plate mounting surface. This stainless steel plate provided support for my license plate mounting holes when my license plate's edges were sticking out unsupported into space. Without this stainless steel plate my license plate would have bent when I tightened up the mounting screws.

fits no state's plates exactly
Different states have different sized plates, with different holes, and hole spacing. This plate is sized for the largest, Minnesota, which is 7-3/16" x 4-3/16" - i.e. it is larger than your plate in other states. The holes are a 1/4", so too small for many states. The holes are too close together for Alaska, Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, DC, Minnesota, and New York. Basically this doesn't fit anything exactly.I took a flat and round file to mine to get the holes to work. It wouldn't take much to make state specific plates.

Perfect to adapt a motorcycle license plate to fit onto a "too small" spot on a dirt bike with LED tail light. Thick and solid.
This is a very heavy gauge metal plate which worked perfectly for my application and needs. I installed an LED tail light on my dirt bike since the old tail light broke in a crash (never ask me who crashed). The old tail light assembly had a plastic panel attached below it for my license plate, since the bike is street legal. When that was removed, and the new tail light was installed, it's a little bit bizarre but there is a "license place light" to shine on the license plate (required to be street legal), but the piece of plastic on which to mount the license plate was tiny - not even 4" wide. No way to attach the license plate onto it. The license plate "spot" was kind of an afterthought, poorly implemented, although the tail light itself works great and installed quickly and easily. So I found and ordered this heavy-duty metal backing plate which has holes for the license plate to mount to it. I simply drilled some holes in the middle with matching holes in the plastic "mounting spot" of the new tail light assembly, and bolted this thick metal plate just below the new tail light, where the license plate is apparently supposed to go. I then attached the license plate to this via some additional bolts and self-locking nuts so nothing would vibrate loose, and I'm ready to rock and roll on the trails, or to drive down the street to get some gas.Frankly, this is the perfect solution to that dilemma, and I hope that some of you who are switching over to LED headlights and tail lights find this review to let you know, this not only can be done, but it's simple and inexpensive. Virtually all of the aftermarket LED tail light assemblies I found out there (amazing pricing, $10-$30, mine cost $12 I believe) have this skinny little, totally inadequate spot for your license plate. It's actually perfect for a couple of OHV stickers or whatever, but too small for an actual license plate. And this "adapter" is all you need to make it work.

NOT AS PICTURED
I bought this plate to replace my plate on my Electra Glide after taking off the luggage trunk. Anyways long story short the picture shows 6 holes... 4 slot holes for plate mount and bolts and 2 hole to replace the plate back on the rack that holds the plate. There were no holes and had to drill them out myself... So when advertising the plate with 6 holes make sure that there is 6 and not 4 so the next guy doe not have to drill out holes that were expected to be there and to void false advertisement, per picture of product.

Perfect
This was exactly what I needed... I had lost one license plate from the wind and vibration. I almost lost a second plate. Fortunately I saw it before it broke off. One corner had broken and the other corner was split about 3/4 the way through. So I took it off and bought this plate. I used some 2 fender washers to cover the broken corners. It was slightly larger than the actual plate. I have since bought a license plate frame. It works perfectly.

Stiffen up your tag!
This polished, thick gauge stainless steel backing plate will help prevent vibration if you're riding a 'shaker' and also help prevent bending or breaking your tag and tag frame when bumped. It's very well made of solid SS with no burs, snags or die marks, fits perfectly behind the plate. Only issue I have is that it's a little on the pricey side. But, I haven't found anything to compare it to, either. So, four stars.

Nice
2nd one I've purchased. Both have been installed on vintage Cushman Eagles from the late 1950's. I had to drill & counter sink two holes in these plated to line up with the orig. license bracket holes. The license plates were a diff. size back then. Other then that they're great.

Plenty thick and sturdy
Would've given it 5 stars, but the holes aren't big enough for 1/4" screws. Big enough for #10's, though. Not a deal breaker, juts kind of annoying. Really thick and strong; no flex, and if you threw it at somebody, it would probably decapitate them.
