My new m80 came with a cheap cloth pouch not the nice one that came with my other m80 and two m81s. Whats up?

I have bought 2 telefunken m 80s over the last 3 years. both came with a nicely padded leatherette case.I have noticed that telefunken is always updating their products. I hope this helps.

this microphone does come with a pouch . it is a leatherette pouch .its also a dynamic mic with a condensor like sound

how does the sound compare to shure beta 58?

I've used a shure beta 58A. I was impressed with this mic. It had high output much like my Heil PR35 and a pronounced top end to help cut through. My M80 overall seems to capture a wider frequency range but honestly if you're in a rock band I don't think the extra money for the M80 would be worth it. For my music where there are lots of time where my vocals are only paired with a single guitar, the M80 makes a difference for sure. I hope that helps.
