Edward Hopper

I feel a little guilty for liking Edward's paintings so much since her was a bit jerk to his wife and treated her so poorly. This little book is a gem.. Has all my favorites and more

Gorgeous collection of postcards. I'm a huge Hopper fan and think the book is masterly assembled and also inexpensive (if you can find it all). I can't bear to break up this set. I just may go out and purchase all the books available so I have plenty of cards to mail. The old school postcards are the new, enhanced Twitter.

large format is great, did not realize it was so large. good reproductions,and i like the chronilogical layout. the book has a nice flow.

This is a thoroughly readable review of Hopper and his work, organised around his different preoccupations. Overall this was a worthwhile purchase.

Très beau livre.

白黒印刷のページが多過ぎます。(なので星4です)ホッパーは「色彩と光」の表現が素晴らしい作家なのに。印象では掲載作品中、半数ぐらいの作品が白黒印刷になってしまっている。残念なことにアートに理解の無い人が出版に関わるとこうなる。この年代ぐらいまでに出版されている画集の素晴らしいところは、カラーフィルムで複写された写真と印刷技術によって再現されている為、キャンバスの質感や絵の具の塗り斑の状態などが生々しく反映されています。現在のようにデジタル技術が進んでからの画集は余計な画像補修作業をされているようにも見えてリアルな迫力がありません。この画集は印刷のクオリティも高く大判で絵の細部が見えて何かと新たな発見も多くあります。とにかく膨大な作品掲載数です。おそらくホッパーのファンでも初めて見る作品が多くあることは間違い無いでしょう。水彩画の作品も多く掲載されていて油彩画でなくともホッパーらしさは一目でわかり面白いです。ヌードなどの人物デッサンも多くあり、ホッパーのファンであれば意外な資料としても楽しめます。ホッパーの画集を集めている愛好家のコレクターズ・アイテムとしてなら良いと思います。

Fabulous book. Bought as a present and my husband was thrilled. Beautiful photographs and text. Just what I wanted and delivered earlier than expected so was in time for Christmas ! Couldn't be more pleased.
