Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian

Absolutely loved being reunited with Christian and Ana!
Years ago there was a lot of hype about the FSOG trilogy… it was on the news, women were discussing it quietly in lunchrooms while at work, men were either encouraging or discouraging their significant others to read it. People either loved it or hated it.I hadn’t picked up a book in years, life had just gotten too busy for me to indulge in someone else’s story. But, I like many others, just had to know what all this talk was about. So I took a chance and ordered all three paperbacks. I fell totally and completely in love with Ana and Christian, I mean head over heels in love! I just couldn’t flip those pages fast enough, I even learned to cook, amongst other household duties, with one hand just so I didn’t have to put my beloved paperback down. When I heard Christian’s POV was going to be released I was equally excited and scared. Let’s face it, the man is without a doubt, Fifty Shades of Messed Up and as much as I wanted to know what he was thinking I wasn’t sure if I could handle being in his mind. When I read Ana’s POV I remember being sad that she left at the end of the first book and thanking god I had the second book to dive into so I wouldn’t have to go any length of time before I knew what happened. She was just a girl that fell in love with a boy and it just didn’t work out or at least that’s what I thought at the time and it just made me sad.But having just finished Christian’s POV I am actually depressed, he just hurts my heart. I am surprised I feel that way because I know how this all plays out….. But nonetheless that’s how I feel. Watching this man fall in love and be willing to give up everything he knows and feels he needs because of his love for Ana is just everything!I am so glad to have had the chance to go back and revisit Ana and Christian via Christian’s POV. Job, well done, Ms. James. Thank you so much for giving us Christian’s story.

I loved this version so much better!
Some things to know up front:1. This is a retelling. If you've read the other novels it will seem somewhat repetitive but I mean what did you expect? You knew what this was before you read it.2. This is still a kinky, messed up, etc. book. If you didn't like the first novels I don't see why you would like this one. This type of book isn't for everyone. It doesn't mean it's bad, it just boils down to what you personally like.I actually loved this book. I read the original Fifty Shades of Grey and was apathetic about it. I found Anastasia and Christian to sometimes be annoying and unrelatable. I especially disliked Christian. I couldn't imagine why any woman would want to be with someone like him. However reading Grey, I absolutely love Christian now. I don't know what it is, but seeing everything through his eyes made me sympathetic toward him. I found him to be more charming and sexy this time around. Ana is also much more likable in this version. She seems mysterious, strong, sexy and lovable. Her annoying features pretty much disappeared for me.In Fifty Shades of Grey their relationship never made sense to me. Ana always questioned everything and Christian spent most of his time annoyed with Ana and complaining. I couldn't understand why these two people were trying to make the relationship work. However in Grey, you really get to see how much Christian is obsessed with Ana and how much he truly cares about her. He hardly ever gets mad or annoyed with her. Their relationship is much more alluring in Grey and I found myself finally rooting for the two of them.Overall I liked reading from Christian's perspective so much better then Ana's. So much so that I don't think I could ever go back to the original book. This is so much better to me.If you loved the other books, I still think you'll love this novel as well! It really will make you fall in love with Christian. The only thing I will note, the author made some baffling mistakes. Some of the lines from the first book are changed in this one. Maybe it's just an attempt to fix some of the issues people had with the first novel but it's still strange. I have to agree with others that it is a huge editing mistake and comes off as lazy.

first of all I enjoyed it, the male perspective was far more erotic ...
Well, first of all I enjoyed it, the male perspective was far more erotic amd James writing style has improved dramatically since the trilogy. However I was shocked and disappointed at the sudden ending with many of the aspects in the story line just left hanging. I was taught that if you mention a gun in the first act it has to be used by act three. The book leaves Leila still at large and no reunion of Ana and Christian , just the fact that he is going to take her to the Art exhibition. Having read the trilogy I know what happened to Leila but some people only managed the first book in the Trilogy and some have come to Grey first. I Would have liked to have read the Leila scene when she does turn up from Grey's perspective. In fact the loose endings and half written parts in Grey do lend themselves to s sequel. I was also taught that endings are as important, sometimes more important than the whole story put together- so often authors of more than one book seek to suddenly run out of time ( from the publisher) or ideas and don't end well. I was most disappointed at the abrupt end.now have to trawl through the trilogy to remember the Leila scene again.

Fifty Shades of...just the same
My favourite part of the FSOG series was the Christian viewpoint chapter at the end of the third book where he encounters Ana for the first time: her viewpoint tended to be immature, repetitive, irritating and more than a little pathetic sometimes. I thought that she was a completely unrealistic and out of touch character and if she was my daughter/sister/friend I would have spanked her myself and dragged her into this century by her hair. That said, I did quite enjoy the story because I was a Twilight reader and thought the idea of using another writer's idea/characters, rather than create something from scratch was quite a novel approach for a writer to take. I was really excited when Grey was published and downloaded it the same day. Talk about an anti-climax! I've never felt so disappointed in a book or it's writer in my entire life. I ended up skipping all of the bits which were an almost exact reproduction of FSOG...and as a result I'd read the whole book in a couple of hours. I can't blame EL James for cashing in, however, I think she's made a mistake in creating such a lazy, badly written and frankly boring book. Hopefully, if she decides to rehash the remaining two books into Christian's perspective, she'll actually use her imagination for a change and come up with something worth buying.

A great retelling of a beautiful love story !
I was actually in two minds whether to read this book, I was excited to hear Christian's side of the story but on the other hand I was worried his POV would ruin one of my favourite books ever. However I did decide to give it a go. It took me a good few chapters to get into the book, it didn't really hook me until around chapter 3 and then I couldn't put it down, hearing Christian's take on events became addictive and I found my self falling in love with him all over again.I think everyone knows the story of Ana and Christian, so a recap is unnecessary but it's the small details that left me breathless, like Christian's reaction to a 'x' in an email from Ana endeared me to this complicated man and his struggle to give Ana 'more' was insightful. We finally get to understand a little about his relationship with ' Mrs Robinson' and his ex sub Leila which I really enjoyed and how Christian was able to successfully stalk Ana !I very rarely reread books, so I was worried that this retelling would not hold my attention but it held it and captured it fully. I enjoyed reliving this groundbreaking book but from the other side, I laughed, I almost cried and I fell in love with an incredible love story all over again - just perfect

More shades…
I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to read Christians version of the books but I was able to blast through all 3 in a very short space of time. At first I must admit I wasn’t sure how I felt about it from his perspective and it took me a while but I warmed to him quite quickly and soon felt captured by the emotional parts of his story. His eternal love and demotion to Ana makes a beautiful read. Would highly recommend if you loved the first trilogy :) fall in love again.

A great addition to the set.
Was so excited when I heard this book was being released. Purchased straight away and have recently started reading. I loved the first books and managed to read all three in just under a week - I was on the labour ward and the talk of the hospital. Such a beautiful story behind that red room! I always look forward to reading more but then get sad when the book is finished. In Christian's own words, and through his thoughts, reflections, and dreams, E L James offers a fresh perspective on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the world. Christian Grey exercises control in all things; his world is neat, disciplined, and utterly empty - until the day that Anastasia Steele falls into his office, in a tangle of shapely limbs and tumbling brown hair. He tries to forget her, but instead is swept up in a storm of emotion he cannot comprehend and cannot resist. Unlike any woman he has known before, shy, unworldly Ana seems to see right through him - past the business prodigy and the penthouse lifestyle to Christian's cold, wounded heart. Will being with Ana dispel the horrors of his childhood that haunt Christian every night? Or will his dark sexual desires, his compulsion to control, and the self-loathing that fills his soul drive this girl away and destroy the fragile hope she offers him?Great price and fast delivery!
