Growing up in the Moriches area, the sight and SMELL of ducks was a part of my childhood memories. Many of the names and farms were part of my life and of those of my mom and her friends in that area from 1920’s onward.Just an enjoyable piece of Long Island history.

Was what I wanted

Fascinating account of the duck industry on Long Island. Very well researched and well written, riveting photographically account of the history of the Big Duck. Hope to see more from this author in the future. Highly recommend.

I really enjoyed reading about The Big Duck and duck farming on Long Island. As a small child, I was enamored with the Big Duck and remember going with my father to purchase a fresh duck for a holiday dinner. I also have memories of traveling past the duck farms and holding my nose in the backseat! This book was informative and well documented with interesting pictures. I enjoyed the trip down memory lane and adding to my knowledge of the people and farming history of the island.

The photos alone are worth the cost of the book, especially the female pluckers with all the feathers.
