can this be used for drinking water?

My experience with these fittings was the machining was horrible. They would never tighten up enough for it not to leak. It is great for water, but the quality of the finished sucks. They need to melt them down, and redo them.

Bought the 1/2 male to 3/8 female bushing. Why would the 3/8 female diameter be larger than an actual 3/8 male fitting?

He could have a different 3/8 thread pattern or what he has is metric and not 3/8.
