Iconic
The children of the 50's and 60's were, in some respects, products of the radio and television media. In other words, we were all universally exposed to the same programs and the same music. While there are hundreds of channels today and many more internet download sites, back then there were a handful of radio and television stations, making the programming a universal experience across the country. Consequently, advertising slogans became part of the tapestry of this generation. One thinks of the Charles Atlas Dynamic Tension ads, (getting sand kicked in your face) or Look ma, no cavities or Trix is for kids and a host of others. Of course, there was Jimmy Nelson, Danny O'Day and Farfel saying: N-E-S-T-L-E-S, Nestles makes the very best.........At this point I don't even need to write the word "Chaw-clete," because of its universality for the boomer generation. And this is where author Tom Ladshaw comes in. 'A Jimmy Nelson Celebration,' is a wonderfully comprehensive tour de force of the career of ventriloquist Jimmy Nelson. This biographic labor of love is inclusive in its scope. Loaded with photos from his illustrious career, it is a a tour de force of the man behind the "dummies," (Danny O'day and Farfel the dog and others). Mr. Nelson is still with us today, which makes this book even more meaningful as it pays tribute to this "Dean of American Ventriloquists." Highly recommended!

A "must have" to complete your personal library.
Jimmy Nelson has arguably done more for the art of Ventriloquism than any other single person, in history. He is a performer, teacher, a pitchman, a pesonality and of course a great ventriloquist. He is officially the Dean of American Ventriloquists, a title given to him by the Vent Haven Museum, but to me he is the GodFather of modern ventriloquism and my friend. He still inspires me with his style and class as a human being and as a ventrioqual artist. Jimmy Nelson is a National Treasure. This book by writer and vent authority Tom Ladshaw covers Jimmy's life and public career chronicling the rise of early television. Jimmy, along with partner Danny O'Day and Farfel the dog, became a 50-60's icon with their Nestle's Quick television commercials, and later the inspiration for a generation of vents with a record called "Instant Ventriloquism". I am so glad this book was published. There is much to learn from this man and this career. Future generations will know that there was a kind, wonderful, funny, intelligent, artistic, gentleman ventriloquist and friend to all named Jimmy Nelson.
