Kids can have fun taking on a giant tyrannosaurus rex dinosaur with this exciting Hot Wheels playset. The playset gives kids a chance to battle and vanquish the huge T-Rex as it "eats" and spits out cars. A kid-controlled attack ramp launches cars, and a motorized booster shoots cars up the T-Rex's back. An "Excavation City" at the foot of the T-Rex's tail is home base for the cars (sold separately). The set features cool sound effects like the T-Rex roaring and other noises. When built, the dinosaur playset is 2' 8" tall. Part of the Hot Wheels Universe. Imported.

WOW! This thing is fun!
My son is a huge dinosaur fan. He is 5 years old and since he was 3 he has said he wanted to be an archeologist when he grows up. So, when he saw this advertised on TV, it was all he wanted. We gave it to him for Christmas and I must say it is one of only a few Hotwheels play sets that actually work well. I didn't read the reviews beforehand, but even if I did, we'd have gotten it for him anyway. Just the size of the dinosaur amazed him. True, not all the cars work in it because they can't have the roofs be too high or they don't fit through the tunnel, but my son has well over 75 matchbox/hotwheels cars, so this was not a problem. Ours works superbly. It indicates that the mouth will hold 5 cars, but we can pile 8 or 9 in. Then when my son uses the lever to have a car hit the mouth & release the trapped cars, he cracks up laughing as they come tumbling down. He makes up stories about the T-Rex eating the cars, so it triggers imagination while playing. Although my husband assembled it, on the occassions when we have moved it from one room to another and it has come apart, my 5 year old son knows how to reconnect everything.

Good fun!
We bought this toy for my son for Christmas. He had a blast with it. Althought it looked intimidating to put together (it took about 40 minutes) the instructions were very clear if you bothered to read them thoroughly and I was never left wondering what on earth to do next. We never thought it was particularly dangerous. Yes, there were flying cars, but we expected that. Probably not for really young kids, but fine for a five year old. After 4 months of use, the head came off due to a manufacturing flaw in which the holding pin came loose from the neck. Mattel was wonderful in issuing me a voucher to replace the product. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this product, but am having a hard time finding it now.

Fun for while but tough to keep upright........
This toy is for 4 and up and little kids love it but its really too hard for them to play with; it only uses certain size cars and its not so easy to get it all to work just right to get the cars in the mouth, when it does and releases them, you have to reset the mouth/head and thats not so easy either; this is in part due to the fact its wobbly and very hard to keep upright; if an adult can't be there every moment, it will be hard and frustrating for the kids - maybe older kids will do better with it, it can really fun but only for a while. I thought of this now as it ended up in my son's closet and we are giving it away today due to lack of use. Would recommend under limited circumstances.

Take a picture of it so you remember what it looked like..
Seven batteries in two compartments, requires assembly. How much assembly? I spent at least an hour. There were two sides of a sheet of paper about ten inches long and five feet wide. It took me 20 minutes just to get the decals on everything. This thing had dozens of little parts that had to be snapped into place by little plastic grommets. I figured the little plastic grommets were an illusion. As soon as a kid sat down a car on it's track or pushed on the head to reset it, the entire thing was going to come unsnapped into that billion pieces again. Indeed, some of the parts came unsnapped as I snapped others in. This was the Edsel of toys. It was a child's "Spruce Goose". Once I assembled it, I took a picture because I knew that would be the last time it would ever be together. In use, it began to pop apart almost immediantly. I set about keeping it together with a roll of duct tape. The boys did enjoy the shear distructiveness of a matchbox car flying up the throat of the dinosaur at great (dramatic!) speeds but wanted to actually "play" with the toy. Of course, any actual touching caused the parts to come off. This toy is really meant for someone who can just look at it and watch it. I used a lot of duct tape. By the time a week had passed, the playset was beginning to look as if I had made it out of stuff laying around in my garage.

MY 4 YEAR OLD SON LOVES THIS TOY!!
I never give reviews like this, but I read some of the other reviews that didn't like this set and I had to chime in. Yes, I was skeptical when my child wanted this set, but when he got it for his birthday I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it actually worked like it's supposed to, and it's great fun to play with! It looked noisy and somewhat dangerous from the commercials on TV (with cars flying out of the dino's mouth and all), but I didn't find that to be the case when it was built and operating. The set works well and he and I have lots of fun playing with it; supervision is recommended since the cars are moving fast coming out of the launch. It wasn't hard to put together, and it took longer for me to apply the stickers than to assemble the track. It's not one to be moved around once it's assembled (just like most Hot Wheels sets) but contrary to other reviews I found it to hold together very well and was pretty sturdy once fully assembled. Most cars worked with the set but you really only need about five or six cars since that's all that will fit in the dino's mouth. It was also neat to see the T-Wrecks set in the "World Race" cartoon, episode three. He loves it, and all around I think it's better than many of the other HW sets out there (and he has quite a few of the other HW track sets, so believe me I know). Shop around for the best price, we paid around 30.00 for it and I think it was worth it at that price (I sure can't say that about all HW track sets). I was very happy and a bit surprised when I saw how much fun he had playing with it, the only question is where to put it when it's not being used....it's a big set. For our family though, the good outweighs the bad hands down.
