NO ONE BUYS THIS SOAP FOR THE SMELL
I can't take a star off because of the smell. It doesn't smell pretty strong but if you're buying it for it's main active ingredient then you have to accept the smell. If you're buying it because you watched a tik tok on Marilyn Monroe then know she smelled like your Great Grampa. When I first opened the package I was immediately taken back to my childhood using my grandparents bathroom. Even then I wondered what that smell was. I think it smells like a morgue. Like a mix of formaldehyde and hospital. My husband was blessed with the Asian gene that makes his sweat not stink. Me, not so much. Living in a hot desert will make you stinky and this soap has done wonders to make me not stinky as well as feel really clean. Don't get me wrong. The smell is terribly strong, like you can smell it down the hall from my bathroom after I am out. I actually keep it in an air tight container when I don't use it. I also double was with a better smelling wash after. BUT hear me out. I feel Clean and fresh. No residue and I don't feel as stinky . I think that's what Marilyn was going for. If you've ever watched documentaries on filming back then it was long and gross. Tldr: Marilyn Monroe smells like you great grandpa. The smell of this soap is strong but it does the job if you can handle it or double soap with a nice smelling soap.

Smells exactly like it should.
I know you’ll find lots of other reviews about how this stinks. And sure, odors or aromas are subjective. But if you’ve ever been around hospital sanitizer or any other carbolic soaps (like LifeBouy from long ago … but *not* the new LifeBouy sold on here!), you know what to expect. This is good soap. It is a decent sized bar, not tiny like some. It cleans well without leaving you feeling dry or tacky. And the scent? Well, it’s slightly medicinal, but has just enough perfume-like quality that it has a masculine, leather type smell too. If you want a comparison you might relate to, to me this smells a lot like Lysol. Not the sprays that come in Linen or Lavender or Unicorn Toots in the Sunset. No, I mean the red stuff. The serious stuff grandma pulled out when a grand baby had a diaper leak on her kitchen floor. That “I mean business about cleaning!” smell. Medicinal but still clean and somewhat fresh. I like it, and will likely order this again when I get through these bars. And yes, that aroma lasts on your skin. You’ll smell clean. You won’t smell like flowers or fruits or a bubbling spring in a Northern European island country or a urinal cake or a cheap cardboard air freshener. Just clean. Not sure about you, but that’s why I shower.

Very cleansing and smells really good!
I was nervous to try carbolic soap because I have heard mixed reviews about the smell. I am very sensitive to smells and odors but I must say, the smell is really nice. It smells antiseptic and clean, and slightly perfumed. The scent is not gendered. Some people likened it to the original Lysol which is actually what I use to clean, and I don’t think it smells like that. This smells less chemical and sweeter. My skin feels very clean and soft. It lathers very well and removed all odors from my body. I think people are being dramatic about the smell. It’s certainly not a dove or olay but it very cleansing and that’s what it is supposed to do.

Good soap
This is good soap but I was hoping it would smell like the soap we used here in the 50s, 60s and 70s. It really doesn't.

Works great to keep people 6 feet away or further!
Yeah, the stuff smells badly. It will indeed cure the Corona, cause no one will get within maybe ten feet of you from the smell. That being said, it does seem to take the edge of some kinds of embarrasing itches and rashes, and helps with facial mutations from various cyber-organisims (acne). I keep my bar in a plastic container with a lid, and store it under the kitchen sink. I don't think any critters will invade that space (a bonus) cause it emits the stink right through the plastic container. With all that being said.... I dug the smelly bar out tonight and had a vigerous go of it in the shower. Like I said, it takes the itch out of itches, and mellows out certain rashes even after one use. A week of it and I will look ten years younger (but have not friends cause of the smell). Good stuff, well, if you live alone. I keep a second bar in the garage and have no mice or rodents as a result!

Great clarifying soap
I did not pay attention to the ingredients. This soap has coconut derivatives and for some reason I have a coconut oil allergic reaction for my face and scalp. So does my son Lucky for him, he did not listen and use the so as often as I did. A few days in I checked the ingredients when my face broke out. I imagine it is awesome. I did enjoy how well it clarifies my skin from the neck down. It was really stripped down and I feel cleaner when soaps do that. So it is good as a pre wash to your body wash since body wash sits on the skin. I also used it to hand wash socks and underwear,, since I do not let those accumulate through the week.

It smells gross
10/10 for cleanliness. 10/10 on quality. -100/10 for smell. It stinks so bad. It almost smells like a used diaper, like an old people home. the smell is very off putting to me, but the soap itself is great. It definitely gives an all over clean feel. It strips oil very well and feels "squeaky clean". cleaner feel than castile soap. But the smell... I don't get hospital from the smell, it kind of smells like when Pinesol it's used to clean urine 🤢 I hope others don't pick up on the scent on me.
