Q: Easy to wipe off seat cushion?

Yes, it is easy to wipe off the cushioned seat and wood frame. I am enjoying this swivel stool and have every expectation it will hold up well over time.

Q: How firm is the cushion?

I initially was looking for wooden stools that were 360 degrees. I too was concerned about cheep cushion tops. These stools are Very nice. I believe them to be more on the firm side. They are not mushy or cheaply filled foam. They are not "Hard" but have enough firmness to be very comfortable to sit on. I purchased two of these and I am very satisfied with the overall construction and quality materials. They do swivel 360 degrees and are quiet. You do have to assemble them and the enclosed instructions are easy to follow and they are easy to assemble. They are a perfect addition to my kitchen. Color of stools in picture depict the actual color.
