Throughout their six-year career, Mono has ascended consistently in both popularity and critical acclaim, with record sales and live show attendance corresponding. If there is any chance of breaking that spell, it lies in You Are There, without a doubt the prime contender to unite the live and recorded worlds of Mono. Once again captured to tape by Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio studios in Chicago, IL, the album extends the cinematic drama o 2003's Walking Cloud and Deep Red Sky, Flag Fluttered and the Sun Shined (also recorded by Albini), while surpassing the sinister heaviness of 2002's lauded One Step More and You Die. If Walking Cloud was a nuclear winter, then You Are There is the post-war rebirth; steeped in an ominous creation-via-destruction atmosphere not heard since Neurosis' landmark Enemy of the Sun defined the sound more than a decade ago.

that has been my favorite band since
This album is incredibly moving as it has a very profound way of bringing out so many of those complex feelings that we as people often try to suppress in our daily lives. I think I had heard the tracks before on Myspace when it was still a popular site to be on and when Japan's MONO band was still new at the time, I was so enthralled as soon as I heard these songs again after possibly over a whole decade. It was also this band who first got me into their American counterparts, Explosions in the Sky, that has been my favorite band since. Anyways, this album perhaps defines me the best for its calm yet complex sounds that I follow very earnestly in my listening.

Very great album. The vinyl edition specifically sounds amazing and comes on 2LP.

Beautifully heavy
Mono can be compared to Explosions in the Sky, and it is understandable. Their songs start off soft and builds up slowly to a raging climax just like Explosions in the Sky. You Are There will please all fans of EitS and all fans of beautiful instrumental music in general.

nothing bad composition wise here, but nothing particularly groundbreaking either.

Beautiful masterpiece
Mono is one of those few bands of which I can say, "everything they do is absolutely perfect".

Beautiful.
It's one of the most beautiful post-rock efforts MONO have produced and in my top 5 post-rock albums of all time.

Yes, I'm Here
Mono go from strength to strength. This does "feel" like a natural follow-on from Walking Cloud, which is no bad thing. Whilst it lacks some of the (IMHO excellent) experimentation of One Step More or Pipal Tree, it feels more reflective and subtle (sic). Are You There is an excellent example of this.I find Mono very hard not to listen to: I usually end up transfixed. You are There contains all the hypnotic, enigmatic qualities of pervious works. If you're new to Mono this is definately a good start. But beware, you may find yourself buying all their works! Finally, I was introduced to Mono by John Peel (GRHS). He played Sabbath from One Step More ...... I was hooked.

Landschaftsmusik
