Featuring three new tracks and liner notes, The Very Best attempts to bring Foreigner into the '90s as a viable, working band. Problem is, the most convincing songs here are those recorded during the band's first four albums when they were young and, if not hungry, at least not played out. "Jukebox Hero," "Hot Blooded," "Head Games," and "Cold As Ice" all sound as ripe and ready for radio as the day they were released. Singer Lou Gramm gave Foreigner its face and with the counterpunch of ex-Spooky Tooth guitarist Mick Jones proved a formidable team. The inclusion of their gospel-influenced hit "I Want to Know What Love Is" is the only addition from the 10-cut greatest hits album Records . --Rob O'Connor Out of print in the U.S.! If you're looking for a more substantial Foreigner 'hits' collection than 1982's 10 track Records, then this 17 track collection, originally released in 1992, is your best bet. Foreigner was a hit-making machine in the late '70s and early '80s, cranking out one Classic Rock radio standard after another, and all are showcased here. The term 'Arena Rock' was virtually invented by such rocking cuts as "Juke Box Hero", "Cold As Ice", "Urgent", "Double Vision", "Dirty White Boy", "Feels Like the First Time". Foreigner was one of the first rock outfits to excel with the power ballad: both "Waiting for a Girl Like You" and "I Want to Know What Love Is" helped open the floodgates for similarly styled songs by others. Warner. Review: Good music - I like listening when I ride my bike to work out Review: Excellent Foreigner CD from the 90’s - I purchased this CD to replace my original that was lost. There are only 1 or 2 songs I dislike that were new releases back then. The only 1 of those I liked is ‘Prisoner of Love’. The rest are great as they are classics! Always takes me back to the good ole days, listening to the radio and not having a care in the world except for having fun!

Not so foreign at all...
Foreigner is not one of my favorite musical artists, but I do like most of their hits. I bought this CD to get my 2 favorites, "Waiting For A Girl Like You" and "Urgent". "Waiting" is like something out of a beautiful, hazy dream, and "Urgent" is hot, hot, hot, especially with that sax. I also like "Juke Box Hero", "Double Vision", "That Was Yesterday" and, of course, "I Want To Know What Love Is". The CD kicks off with 3 newer cuts that were not hits (to my knowledge), and they are OK, but they sound a little forced, as if the idea was to make new songs that sound just like the old hits. They're not bad, just not very inspiring. On the other hand, some songs that I didn't love that much back in the 70's sound really good on this CD, such as "Cold As Ice" and "Head Games". So, all in all this is a fun way to revisit the mid-70's to mid-80's, and if you like guitar-based rock, I would recommend it. I can't think of one hit that was left out of this collection.

Yeah this is Foreigner!
I like the new stuff they put at the beginning. The fact that they mixed the old(even Rev on the Red line which made me very happy to see) with the new is kind of cool even if its not in cronological* order. The fact is most of the good stuff is there. Yeah I wish it had Blue morning, blue day and some other tracks but go out and get the double CD package if your THAT big a fan. Just sit back and listen like a Juke box hero!

Time to Rock and Roll
I started listening to this group when I was in the 3rd grade and I loved singing these songs with my dad as we went bowling or just driving around. Sadly my previous CD of this group wouldn't play anymore, so I got it here and I'm very pleased with it. This CD has their best work. Yeah they are loud when they sing, but rock in roll is about having a good time There are no cons.

Now I remember why I liked these guys
Wow! How many of these songs were the backdrop of our lives from 1979 through the early 90's? Rock solid songwriting, instrumental work that you felt in your gut, and Lou Gramm's incredible voice. What more could we have asked for. I still think "Urgent" could qualify as my generation's "Bolero" in terms of accompaniment to seduction. Romantic? No. Hot and hard when you needed it? Oh, yeah!
