The Haunted History of the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum

Once again Sherri Brake has found the right balance of history and haunting in this fascinating book! The facts are backlit with the glow of ghostly shadows of the past.I have read several of Sherri Brakes books and always thoroughly enjoy her sense of humor, curiosity and love of history. Excellent gift to give yourself and a wonderful gift for any friends and family who love history, hauntings or both!

Would recommend reading this book especially if you are planning a visit.. really good read especially if you are into paranormal and historic sites

decent book. History on both the mental health system of the time & the actual building. Not a lot referring to haunting's, just the basic "it could apply to anywhere" type. There were also some typo's, but you could figure out what was intended.I guess I wish it had more information & better pictures with detailed captions about specific patients & parts of the building.

I have been to the Asylum before back in 2014 and we are getting ready to go back in June. I wanted to learn more about the history of the building and what went on inside the Asylum before our trip so I bought the book. It is a great read!!!! I am very happy I chose to get it!

I had high hopes for this book, after wanting to learn more from a recent trip to the Trans-Allegheny Asylum in West Virginia. While the book is well-organized and well-researched, it is unfortunately not well written or edited. The typos and grammatical errors were so widespread that it became distracting. There is no excuse for this level of carelessness in a published book; it's like nobody bothered to even give this a once-over editing job.The writing style is amateur and lacks compelling stories, smooth transitions, and emotional depth. It reads like a high-schooler's history project. 2.5 stars is more accurate, but I'm giving it 3 because I did learn some interesting historical facts from the author's dedicated research. However, the lazy editing and writing style is truly disappointing, and I was hoping for much more.

Perfect Birthday present for myself. I love history and stories of old, even the grusome.

I visited the place and was intrigued i hope the book is as good.

Sherri knows her Appalachian haunts and history. I thought it was a well done book.
