I am a licensed Family and Consumer Science (you may know it as Home Economics) teacher and I teach sewing in my studio in a variety of settings- parties, summer camps, after school classes and private lessons. I've been looking for a curriculum that I could use because my goal is for my students to be able to read/understand commercial pattern directions. I honesty thought I was going to have to buy patterns and re-write the directions myself, but then I found Kids Can Sew! I am so excited because what I was planning to do has already been done!

My granddaughter loves it! It was sent quickly and actually arrived sooner than estimated.

I don't like this program at all. I recently opened a School of Sewing. I originally thought I would follow this program, and luckily before jumping in with both feet I bought this one book. Tried following the directions for making a drawstring bag. I have been sewing nonstop for 45 years and I could NOT figure out what they were telling me to do! Not to mention all the cartoons drawn on every pattern piece. BIG pins, happy faces, sad faces, stop signs. Too much to have to pay attention to. Not to mention it's the 21st century. How many girls do you know that are actually going to wear a homemade peasant blouse and pull up skirt out of the house? I've ended up creating my own curriculum--probably more work but I have 25 VERY happy students :-)

Have a granddaughter new to sewing. She lived the book.
