FOREVER
The Family Virtues is an excellent book that should never be completely read but should remain in transit for the rest of your family lives, forever, down each generation, a family tradition which brings closeness and unity and love to each other without end. It has an outstanding simple formula format to follow as a family group around the dining table at evening meals when you all come together - by asking the right questions, to which you may each, in turn, give some considered brief answer which you can all discuss....each person's brief answer gets full group discussion until you care to move on...so this book can be experienced and re-experienced over time. The Family Virtues is a kind of secular "holy" book which invites your family to be aware of and to explore the basic human virtues of which mankind is capable. Discussions over what each virtue means, how it can be expressed, how one recognizes its presence, what one can do to further it, etc. can exist for a lifetime, never being fully explored or completed, but being eternally viable and "in the air", feeling real and present for your family at every moment, all your lives, so each person is more aware of the breadth and depth of human being he or she may reach. This can reach to every generation, without end, enriching your family lives forever.

Easy to read, understand, and put into practice!
I LOVE this book so much! Easy enough for children to understand, these virtues are clearly explained, reasons given for why they are important, and examples shown to help the readers pinpoint how they could incorporate these essential concepts in their everyday encounters. I've used it in teaching a summer program with mixed ages present. The kids responded to it very well. I LOVE this book and reference it for my own personal growth. Don't let the word "virtues" throw you off. It may sound too formal, religious, or unattainable. These are simply attributes that are important in living a life well. Concepts that will create a harmonious life!!

Great
A great workbook for families on virtues. Easy language that everyone in the family can understand. Awesome prompts for questions after each lesson. Is a little "christian" at points but you could easily gloss over that or just change the wording when you read to your kids to make it work for your family.

Virtue-ally perfect
This guide book contains an amazingly powerful approach in an accessible and very useful package. We've used the book as the basis of a Family Virtues Program we run out of our home, and the organization of the volume coupled with the simplicity and practicality of the examples and the exercises has enabled the program to achieve an amazing level of success. Our goal was to use the book in a way that parents of any religious persuasion would welcome and benefit from, and the book lent itself beautifully to this approach. The book is packed full with so many different virtues that families of all persuasions will find plenty to choose from in charting a path forward that works for them.In short, this book has my unqualified recommendation.

extremely helpful
I got this book because of a recommendation from a friend. She taught pre school, and when she applied "the virtues" to her class, she said that it was like a miracle.Personally, my children are older, 10,11,12. I have also had awesome results so far! I have learned to see many situations differently, and it has worked! Each time I have had an opportunity to call my kids to a virtue, calmness reigns. When we argue, calling them to the particular virtue that is needed at that time makes sense to children. It also allows them to be in control of the results. I believe that I will be using this book until they are grown.

Focus on Ideals, not shame
This is the best book I ever read regarding the upbringing of children. It allows parents to shift from a shaming method of correction (e.g., "You're a little thief!") to one that points children to an ideal (e.g. "You need to work on your honesty."). Many specific examples of ideals -- or "virtues" -- are covered and, with very little practice, a parent or teacher will learn to automatically shift from the "bad act" to the quality that a child "needs to work on". The "need to work on" is also central to this method because it tells the child that they are not static beings and that they have the power to do better ...much different from the labeling/name-calling we reactively employ in an attempt to shame a child into better behavior. This book is a gem which I have bestowed upon many people who live and work with evolving young minds.

Looks used although supposed to be new
It was advertised as new, without any marks or signs of usage. That was wrong. The book I received looks used. Which sucks as this wasn't what I paid for and wanted.
