Begun the waifu wars have
Neon Genesis Evangelion The Shinji Ikari Raising Project volume 13. Continues the spin-off series and takes a more serious approach. Along with the previous volume, it is slowly cranking up the drama. While most of the series is lighthearted and this volume is no exception. The time is coming to the ending of the waifu wars! As Shinji must choose between Asuka and Rei, a war that still continues to this day unless you're in Japan where Rei won a long time ago. But still Asuka manages to win the battle in this volume she pulls the ultimate coup de grâce. Will Rei recover? Does Asuka finally have all the infinity stones? This volume also showcases the character development of the Evangelion crew even though being caricatures of the original anime they still change and grow as characters. This manga is taking a different direction than from what I anticipated. However despite that it remains a favorite.

Lucky Vol. 13!
The previous volumes seemed to be getting too bogged down in over-the-top fanservice that I was beginning to fear for the future of this series. But this volume seems to have sobered up from the last couple of volumes' tired "Trip/fall/peek-a-boob" routine, which is great. There's still plenty of fanservice to go around, though it's much more balanced. The story is beginning to push itself into the middle of things more (in vol. 13 especially), which the series definitely needed. I finished the volume eager to find out how the main trio's new situation will figure out.But really, 5 stars for the true star of the manga, Gendo "Based God" Ikari. With lines like "Where are my glasses? I can't be a meganekko without my glasses." you just keep coming back for more of the man.

Five Stars
I wish the plot would progress. It's still nothing but exposition.

(3.5 STARS) Some Improvements
Perhaps it’s time to accept the fact that the story of “Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Shinji Ikari Raising Project,” a romantic comedy version of the hugely popular series, is going nowhere. Or if it does, it does very slowly. With Volume 15 already published in Japan (first volume pubished about 9 years ago), that's something of a feat. One good thing about “Raising Project” is that the series keeps its light-hearted touch throughout, never posing to take itself too seriously. This doesn’t change in this volume. Once again SEELE commences its attack, but somehow it ends up with comedy and fan service including nudity. One good thing about this particular volume is that the manga artist Osamu Takahashi stopped having characters (mainly Shinji and Asuka/Rei/whoever around him) bump into each other. It seems as if Takahashi has decided to forget the origin of this spin-off and focus the romantic relationship between Shinji and Rei.Finally, Osamu Takahashi’s artwork is as fine as ever. The comic is no longer refreshing as it first appeared, but his illustration is always appealing.

The Best Evangelion Spin-off! (A Review of Volumes 1-15)
I have been an Evangelion fan for quite some time now, and I've been trying to catch with this series for some time. So, what do I have to say after reading the first fifteen books; it's okay.STORYThe story is quite simple, as this a comedy of some sorts. It's nothing stellar that many Evangelion fans have come to expect at this point, but it is still entertaining to see what situation Shinji gets himself into. Considering that this is set in the alternate reality in episode 26 of the original Evangelion series, Neon Genesis Evangelion, some fans may find some minor differences to that reality. But none the less the setting is still a good one and works well with the basis of the series.CHARACTERSWhile a lot of the characters will be the more or less the same as we already know them there are some that might act differently; the biggest difference being how Gendo acts. In the anime he is a cold, heartless, farther, but in this series he is a loving farther that can sometimes be a bit too supportive of Shinji and is an outright idiot a lot of the time. This isn't a bad thing because the setting is different from the Evangelion anime, so it makes sense for characters to act a little different and it is enjoyable to read how the characters will act in a world that isn't surrounded by death.ARTThe art style used for this manga series isn't too far off the art style that some fans might be used to seeing. There are times when it is noticeable that the art is different than how some fans might prefer a character to look, but they are still recognisable as the characters we all know and love. Though there is one thing I'm a little disappointed with, and that is the amount of fan service. I didn't mind a little bit here and there in the beginning, but around volume 6-10 the fan service starts to get a little too much for my liking with jokes going a little too far and the fact that there is a naked girl once or twice in each volume until the current 15th. The fanservice about half way through just feels a little unnecessary.OVERALLIf you have seen anything do with Evangelion, whether it be the original series or the new movies, this is an enjoyable manga that I think Evangelion fans should check out. It's fun and filled plenty of comedy and little bits of romance to keep fan interested. This has to be the best Evangelion spin-off that any fan could read and I recommend it to fans only, as newcomer to the franchise might not get much of kick out of it to which I recommend Nisekoi for people who aren't that of a fan or not know that much about Evangelion to care enough to read this.

Reveiw 5
Anyone who knows me well will tell you I hate the term "Game Changer" but for it's 13th issue of The Shinji Ikari Raising Project this term applies with the story finally starting to gather pace. This time Asuka and Rei are forced to the battle Shinji in virtual space when he is brainwashed by SEELE and used as a avatar to hack the lab! This situation places the girls in dire striates, possibly harm the boy they both love or let everything they have worked for be destroyed! However despite all of the above going on there is still plenty of fan service and some very funny moments for those who like that about this version of Evangelion, all in all this a good buy.
