The first Mob Boss of Rock and Roll!
I was always a Led Zeppelin fan, eagerly waiting an album release every couple years. This inside look of the band and Peter Grant were fascinating! His methods, early background and all the musical groups and individuals in music affected was monumental. I learned so much about the empire Peter created, but so many others who were involved. There simply was no other band this successful during the 1970's. I highly recommend this as a read for Led Zeppelin, and Bad Company fans.

A New Way to look at Led Zeppelin
I've read a number of books on Zeppelin and the group as seen by it's manager casts everything into sudden relief. We've seen books from roadies, groupies, even books from members of the band themselves, but nothing from the way Peter Grant probably saw the group. This is a vital perspective, because even John Paul Jones described Peter Grant as a very important part of Zeppelin. The book does have the occasional flub in grammar, but it has been well researched and casts a new light on the rise and fall of the biggest rock band of the 70s.

Peter Grant Was A Living Giant of The Music Industry & Zeppelin's Protector & Chief.
They don't make them like Peter Grant anymore. Without Grant, it's quite possible that Led Zeppelin would have never become the massive band that they were. Also, if you're considering getting into the music industry, you can learn a lot about "old school" methods of "management." There will never be another time like the debauched 1970s. Highly recommended for Zeppelin fans, music industry folks, and anyone who enjoys reading about the excessive world of rock at the very top.

Great! Feel how powerful Led Zeppelin really was
THis is a great book on behalf of rock and roll music's greatest manager! I bought this for my brother who told me MANY Years ago that NWA will have a more powerful long term affect on music than Led Zeppelin ever will. I bought the book for him for Christmas because he will learn his statement back then was WAY off. If you like mob books, good rock and roll stories, then this is a great book. It starts a little slow but takes off quickly thereafter. WELL RECOMMENDED!

So-So Bio of led zep's Legendary Manager, Peter Grant
Like so many others I loved led Zeppelin's music and read the occasional story about their intimidating manager Peter Grant beating on people, etc. This book puts some of those stories in a less brutal context and goes on to extoll his extraordinary loyalty and devotion to the band. Still, it's a rather pedestrian read and probably best for threat IS fanatic.

Missed out
Here's a story my company ran the merchandise for LZ over Europe the last tourDuring the tour i had to go back to the UK for a couple of days .Lying in bed thePhone rang at three in the morning .who in the he'll is calling at that time of night a nasal voice in the other end ,where in the duck are you .I want to see you tomorrow in Hamburg tomorrow ,What s the problem i said the phone went dead .My wife was shouting tell him to piss off ,my response if Grant wants me i am going .I knew that because it was a day off there is no chance I would see Peter till midnight the earliest .so I arrived at the hotel about midday. All the crew stood around ,he is mad ,angry and threatening .What s the problem i said ,silence. So at about midnight the phone rings ,where in the duck are you come up stairs now .I arrive in the Penthouse suite PG sitting on the throne chair in his dressing gown the band all our of it, laying on the floor a glass table covered in sugar or floor like substance a few females in attendance .Peter Grant says to me where have you been and shoves a piece of paper under my nose ,why in the duck didn't you tell me,you could have ducking saved us a lot of ducking trouble .The telex read Martin Goldsmith of North London arrested at Heathrow for smuggling cocaine sown into knitted hats imported from PeruThat's not me I replied ,you are MG said PG but it's not me I shouted backBy this time the band were missing themselves with laughter .The story was a man named Martin Goldsmith was the drug smuggler caught at Heathrow but it wasn't me Grant and his cronies decided to have a joke at my expense .What could i do but go to bed whilst LZ had a laugh at my expenseWas it worth it if course I lived to tell the tale and made lots of money on merc H sales .

A good biography
I wanted to know how was Peter Grant when he was the manager of the biggest Rock band of 70's. I was thinking that he was a gross no educated jerk like in the film The song remains the same, but he has many sides, he loves his 2 children and didn't let anybody treats them badly and was alaways polite with old peoples.I think lots of times it's because he took too much cocaine that he was seen as a guy who always use violence to solve problems, but in the end he's the first manager that took the band as his boss and always found ways to have more money for the band. He was aware that Led Zep was Jimmy Page band and that he should always take care to do what's necessary to avoid Led Zepppelin members to have problems to keep their focus on music. It's a bit boring in the middle but in the end it'S better when you see Peter sober and with more wisdom in his heart.

PETER GRANT...Bringing it on Home
Well, does the author "bring it on home"? Almost, but for me, this was an opportunity missed (mostly). Yes there are stories told, but nothing really tasty, or that perhaps a fan of LZ or music of the period doesn't know already (the Bindon years for example). Obviously Grant's life involved him with many many people and bands, and I found the constant naming, sometimes by christian name, sometimes by surname ro be confusing (a good index does help). Not enough detail about the huge concerts and recording sessions, or some of his more unsavoury acts. However, I read the book from Page One to the end though perhaps that was because I hoped as I turned each page the book would get better, as it did for me in the last few chapters. I have perhaps concentrated on the negative a bit much. I was so in love with the music of the period and there was a lot to enjoy. I just wish I had enjoyed it a bit more. Well worth a go, and I kept reminding myself - This isn't a bio of LZ - it's a bio of Peter Grant and is well worth 4 stars in my book!!

Best book relating to Peter Grant - BY FAR!
....brilliant! One of those (rare) books that one doesn’t want to end, but the reader ‘knows’ it has to. Capture’s everything relating to the Led Zeppelin ‘thing’ - both good and bad. Loved the references to family, both blood and ‘working’ and the casualty count from trying to keep everything together. Peter Grant was a true ‘one off’ - BIG in stature, thinking, aggression, compassion, awkwardness...perhaps it was only he who could have kept the band the safe side of sanity as long as it lasted?I was at Knebworth so specially loved the background to that special event (mine was the first one of the two). Such a shame, as with most things Zeppelin - money soured the legacy. Good also to read the ‘Live Aid’ aggro and how the band got completely sidetracked away from the meaning of that day by artistic difference? Such was the bubble they couldn’t escape they couldn’t comprehend that we were just so pleased to see them - irrespective of the noise they made in Philadelphia on July 13 1985?Thank you Mark for really doing the subject full justice - you should be proud of the result.Thank to Peter Grant - I am now confident that whatever gig I go to now the one thing, at least the artist is guaranteed is some RESPECT....Superb book, recommend to ALL music fans without question!Amen!

ABSOLUTELY AUTHENTIC
This book is absolutely authentic. Love the writing, loved the pace, love the sequencing algorithm of this book in every sense. I worked in this industry for ~ 20 years and was very successful atit too. I knew some of these players and can vouch for the authenicity of this book and its portrayal of events and recording industry antics.Personally I feel great sorrow for Peter because he was just trying to do the best for his family, friends & business associates. I never met "the man" but I feel that we would have had respect for each other. He was a man of his word and was by all accunts extremely funny!.
