Tom Chambers Rustic Hedgehog House

I had trouble fitting the feeding bowl in through the door, had to scoop out some earth under the door. Very attractive, much nicer than those trendy pretend forage igloos. Sturdy. I think of it as a hoglets' Station, if you have any nursing mothers they send their young packing whilst still tiny. One of mine nearly died as he couldn't get to the vast quantities of food that are supplied each night, well that won't happen again. BTW , they do not eat where they sleep as they are extremely messy eaters. Best not to have flooring under the food station. The Hibernation Chamber, on the other hand, needs a solid floor and must be weatherproof with lots of warm bedding material; Barley Straw is good. Good Luck. Let's not lose the once common hedgehog to extinction, they are now on the red list.

The top roof panel was only held on by one nail. I had to remove and re-fix it ( I used screws just to be sure)The wood used is thick and solid so once repaired it is good and solid and should last well.

Just because it is described as,"rustic",it is not an excuse for not sanding off long&dangerous splinters,they would have caused serious injury to my hedgehogs.

I think the design is very basic, I did think there would be a base.This would add to the warmth for the hedgehog. As it is dampness from the ground will lose the warmth created by the bedding

Our resident Hoggy loves the new feeding station. He/she's here ever night for supper. First night it seemed to spook him/her and he/she ran in the opposite direction but a couple of hours later came back and the curiosity got the better of him/her and now makes a beeline for it before scouting round the garden 🦔

This is a good, sturdy item. As it is well made I can see no reason why it would not be weatherproof. Our visiting hedgehogs appear quite happy. It is worth noting that this is not suitable as hedgehog home, simply a feeding station. It is not big enough for a hedgehog to nest in. All-in-all, very pleased.

I bought this item as a gift. Feedback was as follows; Looks great but our current resident hedgehog is too much of a porker to fit in the house. He's now on a strict diet and all parties remain hopeful he'll fit into it before Christmas.
