All My Sons (Penguin Plays)

"He meets a man and makes a statue out of him."
“All My Sons” is at its heart a play about how we deal with those who we love and / or greatly admire when they let us down. Are our expectations too high, or should people live up to the standard that others set for them? Arthur Miller does not give us an answer (of course) but there are moments in this drama that get us pretty close.Like a lot of Miller “All My Sons” deals with a father and son relationship that can never meet the burden of expectation BOTH father and son have put on it. In this manner it resembles “Death of a Salesman” quite a bit. The play is written in three acts. A simple structure: first act sets up the characters and relationships, second act lets us in on the dramatic issue of the play, third act shows us how the characters we have come to know deal with the issue revealed in Act 2.I don’t want to give away any plot points. I was lucky enough to pick up this play knowing very little about it. I won’t ruin that for others here. However, I will say that for an actor and reader the Keller family (the main protagonists of the play) come across as characters with dimension and depth. Mr. Miller has written some great roles here, with a lot of unspoken issues for actors to play with. This text is a quick read, but one that will creep up on you. Like the best of Miller, it deals with a situation that almost any human can relate to, disappointment in someone we love. It will last because that is a part of the human condition and Miller has captured it with all its love, pain, and consequences.I will be seeing a professional production of this piece next week and I imagine it will only enhance my appreciation for this text.

Beware of knock off
Seems like a cheap reproduction. Font is hard to read and hurts eyes. It was so bad, I had to go to The Drama Book Shop to see if there was a better copy. Sure enough, there was. I’m returning this book.

Amazing Play
A play that only Arthur Miller can deliver, "All My Sons" is an intricately designed story that unravels itself in such a dramatic fashion that you can't help but continue reading. A great American play that begs the question, "What would you do to protect your family?"

One of my liberal arts faculty members recommended this play and I fell in love with it! I recommend to several of my friends who care greatly about ethical business practices.

Great quality! (maybe, just a bit expensive? idk)
the booklet is great and I like it. the papers are firm and have quality. nice cover design and everything. I bought 100 years of solitude which is 6 times as thick as this one and had more art designs included with the text for only 9 bux more and idk... either that book should've been more expensive or this one should be a bit cheaper - just saying. either way, both great books and regardless of the price, you need to read them 100%.
