Northern Mysteries and Magick: Runes & Feminine Powers

Outstanding book
I have been a long time student of the Runes, roughly a decade and a half and thought I’ve pretty hit a limit in what books on runes could offer, as many just sort of recycle the same basic interpretations, but I must say I found the delve in to the runes in this book very refreshing as well a better explanation of their uses in magick and using them magickally. Whether you are new to runes or have experience I recommend this book for its insights.

This is one of the best books on The Elder Futhark Runes. Freya Aswynn is a Master. This is a gem .

A great runic text
Freya Aswynn was chosen to write a book that no-one else could. A fresh interpretation of the Elder Futhark as used in magick. A very unique and valuable perspective.I came away with new information regarding the runes -- which I found amazing in itself. Stands with "Futhark" and "Runelore" by Thorsson, as a classic text. The audio CD it comes with was . . . interesting.I am leery of bindrunes, but Aswynn does come up with a few good ones -- but then she goes and blows it by suggesting that we spell out our name with the runes, then use them to make a personal bindrune . . . please do not do this. The runes are not meant to spell out words in the English language.Roughly half the book is devoted to runic divination -- something which should be approached reluctantly, IMHO. While her opinions on divination are probably valid, I admit to having skipped over a few of these chapters.Again, her views regarding the Futhark are valuable, and deserve serious consideration. She makes a number of excellent observations -- and even though many things she states are the result of intuition, I respect her abilities as well as her vision. Furthermore, the chapter covering seidr is something you won't be finding in any other text.

Inner wisdom connecting past to present
I am really enjoying reading this book not just a cursory and superficial overview of the literal translation of each rune leter and its meaning but meaninful observations on a deeper level seamlessly woven with lore and spritual observation from the persective of a modern day volva I have several books on the subject and so far this is my favorite as it interpretation includes insights from a gentler perspective not just historical but metaphorical and allegorical representation makes you ponder the deeper well of intuitive wisdom

I recommend books by Eddred Thorssen as he seems more I ...
Anyone who is serious about devoting themselves and studying the mysteries of Norther mysteries should read this book. Freya Aswynn explains the inner mysteries of the runes unlike anyone I have ever read, and I've read many books. However,I do not agree with her on some of her interpretations, which she encourages people to experiment on their own. I think most of our disagreements arise from the fact that she is a devote Odinist and Iam a devote follower of Freya and a student of Seidr magic. I recommend books by Eddred Thorssen as he seems more I tune with the femin

Vital for working with runes
I've heard that Freya Aswynn books should never be passed by; this is no exception. I haven't finished the book yet, but I've already acquired far more than I paid for the ink and pages. I am so grateful for the personality of this book, the way the author reaches into her soul and delivers her experience and wisdom. I'm impressed with her knowledgeable perspective and highly recommend this book for all spiritual warriors working with runes! I have especially appreciated how well she explains how various runes work with each other magickally.

Good for Northern Mythology and Rune Reading.
A good book written by a lady who has had years of experience studying Norse mythology, witchcraft and Runes.

the best book about runes I have ever read
I study runes for 15 years now and I have never read a book so complete about the runes themselves, their correlations with mythology but also with the culture and language of the north. It is also fascinating in its depths about how to use runes in a magickal purpose.I wish I would have been able to read English fluently sooner! (actually French)Not for beginners, you should study the basis of runes and mythology before but if you want to enter deeper in the subject, it can be your book! :)

Freya fills in the blanks.
Interesting trivia and facts that really explain the meanings of the runes and the Northern Mysteries that they are founded upon. This is the first book that I bought to figure out why all the Wicca 101 books talk about runes or divination but really left me with tons of 'why should I bother?' type questions.Freya explains each Aett (group of eight runes) and then ends the chapter with a synthesis relating it to Norse mythology. It really filled in a lot of blank spaces that the other books and my christian upbringing could never explain, which always left me with the feeling of unfinished business.I ordered the book and the CD (that accompanies the book--sold separately) at the same time. I am still reading and have not given the CD more than brief attention, but I think it will definitely be worth the time.I have already started a list of some other books that were mentioned at the end of the book.Well done!
