Another wonderful Catherine Cooks on book!
I love this book, as I love all of her books. This one is one of my favorites. It made me laugh & made me cry. Taking place in the 19th century in England, like most of her books, this one and many others make a reader spellbound & unwilling to sleep, feeling like sleep must wait a little longer until it is finished! I've loved Catherine Cookson's books for many years, since I was a young wife & mom, and now as a widow & grandmother. of 16! Try one of hers!! Many of them are worthy of being made into movies and also should win many prizes. How I wish I that she were yet alive & writing more fantastic books! 💙

A classic
My Mom has been a long-standing Catherine Cookson fan. She lives in a rural area with no local library or bookstore, so I often call her to get her reading requests and order them for her. So happy I can find what interests her at a most affordable price.

Wow! A fabulous book that I couldn't put down.
How have I just found Catherine Cookson! If you loved Victoria Holt as a young woman you will LOVE Catherine Cookson. It is a more mature read. This is my second Cookson book and I practically devoured this book. We followed the main character Nancy Ann who is the local vicar's daughter from young teens through adulthood. We fell in love, we dealt with serious martial issues, hurts, friendships and learning how to become the woman she was to be. At times I cried, my heart physically hurt and at times I laughed out loud. This is set in the late 1800s and in rural UK. Nancy Ann had to deal with social class and finally being heard. This is such a good book. I ended it feeling like somewhere Nancy Ann is out there living her life.

Great read
My first Catherine Cookson and I enjoyed it! It is a story with many ups and downs and honestly, I’d resist reading a review with spoilers and just let the tale take its course.Nancy Ann Hazel is the parson’s daughter, raised in thrift and uprightness, but she’s no wilting flower. She’s got a fierce temper and she’s fiercely loyal. When the enigmatic lord of the Manor, a man with a reputation, offers for her, she accepts, to the relief of her mother and the consternation of her father. What will life be like with Dennison? She will certainly find her status elevated and her limited horizons broadened. But Dennison is a man of the world and his attraction for this sweet, spunky young lady will be the making of him....or will it?Recommended

Not all that enjoyable
Getting straight to the point, I was completely loving the story line up until the point Nancy Ann didn't seem truly happy with her second husband, who had occupied her mind for years and was hands down the best guy in the whole novel. Why did she have to get married a third time? I never liked the third husbands character to begin with. Was disappointed with the fact she wound up with him anyway. This isn't the first time Cookson has married the Same character to three men two of which were related, (Tilly Trotter anyone?) Despite this the emotions shown at the end felt so rushed, I didn't get it anymore and my dislike for number 3 only discouraged me further. My candid opinion: Leave out the last four or so chapters and the story would have been amazing.

Cookson always tells a good tale.
I enjoyed the book over all but felt it was a little too depressing here and there. I am a Catherine Cookson fan so I am never totally disappointed with anything she has written. Cookson, herself, had a hard struggle in the beginning of her life so she has used what she knows best and based all her stories on life struggle but she does this theme so very well and her ability to tell a story is always excellent so I always recommend her to everyone.

Typically good Cookson
A little bit of a slow start but then picked up into the usual wonderful Cookson story. Now it has gotten to the point where I don't want to put the book down. All the characters are portrayed well and it's an absorbing story of love and human nature, good and bad.Sent fast, packed well and book is in very condition. Good seller, thank you!

Growing up in the NE of England I always enjoy Catherine Cooksons books
Growing up in the NE of England I always enjoy Catherine Cooksons books. I though I had a collection of them all but I did not have this on. Really enjoyed the description of the life of a parsons daughter. The life in my own family years ago was very much the same, Sunday's were a day of rest, we were not even allowed to do any knitting. Things changed as we got older and my mothers regulations became much more relaxed. It also showed that often Fathers are right in their estimatin of other men.

Good read
I like the way Ms Cookson weaves a story with twists to the plot and develops her characters to make them real with good and bad traits. You might have an idea early on of how the story will end, the journey getting there will keep you interested.

Happiness comes from suffering and sorrow.
Catherine Cookson outshines herself by writing the story of Nancy Ann.She lives in the vicarage.Although her father is the parson, yet she is so full of spirit and fresh unlike other girls. She captures the heart of the owner of Rossburn,Dennison Harpcore. He marries her and they settle down.Later she suffers greatly through this marriage. After trials and sorrow, she finds happiness.Interesting and enjoyable!
