This brush is totally worth the hype!
So I have long (a few inches past my bra) hair that is very thick, and due to several factors, also very fine. This is a nightmare combo for detangling - I have recently been using the "Wet" brand detangling hairbrushes, but it still feels like I am ripping through my hair. Rake combs just don't get in-between the fine hair enough to properly detangle. I'll add in here that my hair & skin are chronically dry, and I seem to always have this section of hair about 3/4 down that is unmanageable, regardless of my split ends. Adding in product helps with detangling, but weighs my hair down. I researched this brand a bit after several friends recommended, and yes, it's more expensive than any hairbrush I've bought, but the company has a solid reputation for quality and it's warrantied for life. I actually found a MP brush in my grandmother's cabinet from decades ago & it's in perfect shape, even after being through dozens of kids & grandkids. This detangling brush goes right through my hair, detangles everything without product, and feels amazing on the scalp (and I have a sensitive scalp that is not a fan of bristly brushes). It's also fantastic for getting all of my hair up in a ponytail or bun (I have other MP brushes now, but this one really grips and holds all of my hair up without having to use any pressure - I smooth with the popular mixture brush after pulling up the hair with this one). I don't blow dry my hair, but I do get a respectable amount of volume when I brush it after it's air-dried a bit as well. The brush is solidly built, appears legit compared to my other MP brushes. The packaging is attractive, they've clearly retained their older branding & it stands out nicely - I'll definitely keep the boxes for travel or storage (also, keep your packaging & receipt because they are lifetime warrantied & you may be asked for it if you request repair/replacement). It comes with a nylon cleaning brush which does seem to work effectively. There was some red residue on the brush from the packaging insert, but it wiped off easily. If you have oily hair, or don't want the natural bristles in the other MP brushes, this would be a great everyday brush. It is enjoyable to use and gets right through my hair without pulling or snagging, whether my hair is wet or dry. It feels solid in my hand and is a handsome brush to look at. My hair is noticeably smoother than even a few days ago with almost no product. I've used cushioned paddle-style brushes before & this definitely has a softer hold. If you do blow-dry your hair, I probably would also incorporate a vented, non-cushioned brush to avoid damaging the MP brush with product or direct heat - but I've also got less need to blow dry after using this one. Overall, I really love this brush. I will probably also buy this for my long & curly-haired niece since it is that gentle of a detangler. The cost is absolutely worth is (as are the more expensive natural-bristled MP brushes), and it's a very effective brush that should last for years. It will need to be properly cared for (it should not be submerged b/c of the vented cushion and exposure to lots of product or heat will degrade the bristles & bed), but that's been the case with any high-quality beauty product. I've since bought other MP brushes & combs and have been similarly impressed.

How could I live without these brushes
I have fine hair. It really knows how to tangle. I've bee using these brushes for, I don't know, 45 years. They totally detangle, they survive blow drying. I've never had to follow the instructions for cleaning, although you certainly could. I simply pull the extra hair out of the brush, either by just grabbing and pulling or by running a rat-tail spindle or a pencil or any slender object just above the cushion and pulling off any extra hair. Then I just tap the bristles on the counter and bingo! Done. Occasionally - and I do mean occasionally - some hair winds around the handle of the brush and a pair of scissors eliminates the problem with a snip and a pull. I have a small variation for my purse but I have full-sized, white-based versions in both of the bathrooms I use. And these brushes last for well over a decade, closer to 20 years with regular use. In all the time I've had these I've only had one brush that had ANY deterioration and it lost a few bristles on the end but is still usable. No damage to the cushion at all or to the wonderful handle and base. I keep the one missing a few bristles in my suitcase in case I forget to pack one of the ones in my bathrooms. Mason Pearson also makes a version that has actual bristle as well as this plastic fiber bristle. I have found that for truly fine hair this white, plastic bristle brush is the better choice. I blow dry with it with no problems. You can't twirl it really, but it holds hair well as you dry it and you can usually get a very similar effect of turning the ends. Yes, it costs more but it will outlast and outperform an easy dozen other brushes. It has turned what was once regular warfare to a simple, basic and effortless task with no yanking, pulling and screaming.

Agree with everyone else
It’s the best. It’s worth every penny. I lost mine and came to replace it here. It’s more expensive than it used to be but it’s the same quality as I always remember. No pulling, gets through the most tangly hair ever and does not hurt. I missed my brush when it went missing, so much so that I even bought a similar looking white brush on here but it just yanked my hair out and broke my strands. This investment is worth it. Since purchasing my replacement, I found my missing brush. I’m happy to have multiple brushes now because they’re that good and I never want to be without again. It sounds dramatic, but the reviews raving about this are true. So very true. A lot of people say to just buy it. Yes, it’s expensive. But once you get it; you’ll understand.

Surprising
I thought, a brush that cost $80 bucks - wha?? But there are three girls in this house with lots of hair, so I thought I would try out the detangler. I've heard so much about Mason Pearson brushes from my stylist. And she was correct. It's lovely. It's hard to imagine what a brush would do that would make it so expensive. So I will try to explain. BEFORE: We usually use Goody brushes. We have about a dozen in the house. My daughter gets out of the shower and I hold part of her hair to prevent pulling too hard on her scalp. I take one section at a time and struggle with the knots. The whole process takes about 10 minutes. And it leaves the ends damaged from so much pulling and tearing. I thought: This is just how her hair is and will be for the rest of her life. AFTER: My daughter gets out of the shower. I brush her hair with the detangler. Each sweep of the brush now starts at her scalp, and unexplainably goes all the way down to the end without catching a single knot. Same head of hair. I can not explain it! The brushing takes less than a minute. Her hair is shiny on the top. And unbroken on the bottom. She doesn't mind her hair brushed anymore, in fact I find her sitting on the couch brushing her hair by herself with the Mason Pearson brush. So this is why I gave it five stars. It's transformed our hair brushing process, gives us healthy looking hair, retuns 9 minutes to our day, and makes our relationship a little less stressful each morning. That's worth $80 by itself ;)

I see what every one was saying and completely agree. You get what you pay for and it's very true. I have long hair and it can get frizzy but this brush has seemed to help with the frizz. I love that I can use this brush on my wet hair and dry. It has replaced my Wet brushes and I won't be going back to them. I would love to buy the big one in this one day. Good product and came very fast!

Hope it's lasts a lifetime time.

Not what I expected. The handle is beautifully made, but the brush itself I quite useless and I have very fine soft hair. Sadly had to return.
