A review by Ringo the dog
So my master brought me this medium sized brush because, as a Cockapoo, I tend to have longer wavy hair that can easily get matted. I've been in that situation before where my previous owners didn't take as good care of me and boy did my hair look like a teenanger's at a 60's high school dance. So as the brush arrived, I was skeptical because 1. it smelled like a new product and 2. it was spikey. I sniffed it for a couple of minutes until I gave the green light to use this thing on me. The side with the larger bristles was used first because I think it helps gets my fur straightened first before it goes through the more fine bristled side.OH MAN did this thing feel good. As soon as the brushing began, I couldn't help but lie on my side and have a huge smile on my face as my master gently brushed me. I attached pictures as proof. The side with the larger bristles was much more gentle than I had imagined and removed the tangles from my fur with ease with no pain involved! The softer side feels like I'm being brushed by a gentle cloud of soft and cuddly bunnies. It works wonders on my fur and even though I didn't think it possible, yes, I do in fact look much more handsome. I stared at myself for a good 3 minutes in the mirror when I was done because I just couldn't believe it. My masters were saying something about how soft I am and what a good boy I was and then gave me some treats! Fools, they think I was just being a "good boy" when in fact they were the ones doing me a favor. But that's alright, all the better for me.For all the other dogs reading this review, lick and bug your masters to get this too. It's cheap compared to all the other stuff they buy, like useless chew toys that I don't even use. Oh and many thanks to the other reviewers who helped me pick this brush. Excellent all around!woof woof-Ringo the dog

OK pin brush, bristles work well as lint brush
I got this brush intending to use mostly the pin side. My animals are long haired, so bristle brushes usually don't work on their coats. I use bristle brushes for relaxing brushing rather than serious grooming. As I'd hoped, the pin side does a satisfactory job on the long coats. Also as I expected, the bristle side is useless on my animals' coats. The bristles are a densely packed coarse, stiff synthetic. They just ride across the surface without doing anything except maybe creating static. I think I'd prefer something softer with more surface area if I had a hound or other short coated breed. However, the bristles do a really good job removing cat hair from my quilted cotton bedspread. My long haired cat sheds his undercoat constantly, and the long fine hair defeats both lint brushes and washing machines. One day while sitting on the bed brushing the cat, I turned the brush over and gave the bedspread a few quick swipes with the bristle side. To my surprise the bristles pulled far more hair off the bedspread than they ever had removed from the cat itself. With a little more work I was able to get the bedspread almost completely hair free. Yay!This is now my go to brush for grooming my long haired cat. Brush the cat with the pins, remove the hair mess from the furniture with the bristles. I expect it would also be handy for getting undercoat hair off the furniture if I had a dog breed like a German Shepherd or Elkhound.

Works great for my dog and cat
This is a good brush and I start with the bristle brush and then gently get the tangles out using the pin side of the brush. My dog is a Lhasa Apso so the brush size is perfect. He loves being rubbed and brushed and he thinks this is quite the treat! So, I brush him in the evenings after work for a little extra bonding time. My cat (med length hair) also LOVES being brushed. I used to spend time brushing each of them independently but now when the cat sees me brushing the dog, she comes over and lays next to him so I end up doing a few strokes on one and then the other. Needless to say this is the ONLY time these 2 pets will lay side-by-side without any mischief. The brush size works for both and I like the pin side so I can get her shedding fur off her. Note that if you aren't sure about using this on a cat or your cat isn't used to being brushed you can start with a simple, plain little comb. That's what I did until she got used to being brushed.

I use the wire side sparingly as he won't let me use it too much but he does like the soft side
This is the only brush my Maine Coon cat will let us use. I use the wire side sparingly as he won't let me use it too much but he does like the soft side. He gets a lot of matts in his hair and we have to get a lion cut to start over again and hopefully this brush will help us get the tangles out. I have used a ton of others, even the furminator, and none work to keep him dematted so far. Vet said it's due to their fur being oily so I guess it's more baths for him! Which is okay since he likes baths but he's so messy and wet that I get soaked too haha. *I added some before and after of getting his hair cut/ one before is my daughter trying to hold him. After he looks so skinny!

good but not for a puppy
Great brush, I've order one in medium but it's still too big for my puppy (she's 15lbs now, with medium length coat). She doesn't mind being brushed with this brush in all the easy to get places so I'm very happy with it. It does the job well. I'm using bristle on legs before I use the pin side to make it hurt less (if it hurts at all). However if you have a small puppy or dog buy two separate: pin and bristle brushes. It's very hard to use this brush on legs, under the chin and head.Overall it's great for the price, great for backup. I would give it 5 stars if it was more versatile, or available in smaller size. It won't take out matts, but it does maintain the coat very well.

Perfect for detangling and removing loose fur
We have 2 medium sized terriers with broken coats (i.e. slightly wiry, wavy, single coat, not very thick, but about 2" long, and very prone to matting) and this brush works great for them. We brush them every other day and have used the brush for over a month now without any problems. The pin side is great for untangling / removing loose fur and the brush side helps to smooth the fur. The pins are not sharp and do have a slightly rounded end, but it can hurt the dog if you brush hard and push the pin side into the skin. If you use short, upward strokes (which you need to do to detangle anyway), the pins won't scratch or poke the dog's skin. We had a smaller version of the brush and it works too, but it was really to small for them and this size is perfect. We liked it so much, I bought a spare as we can't really do without!

keeps fur at bay
love this brush. Use it daily on our Dalmatian. Was getting really frustrated with the amount of hair lying around the floor from It leaves. Since using it there is visibly less hair on the floors and his coat soft and smooth.

Bulldog LOVES
I didn’t think I had to brush my bulldog. Then I realized I was wrong and bought this brush. My dog gets so excited when she sees me with the brush and gets so much relief from the hard bristles.

Great brush if you like army green
It's a great brush and I only returned it because I really couldn't handle the army green colour. There should have been more options for colour for this size but there wasn't. It's great that it's double sided so you don't require two brushes. Combs and brushes really well. I recommend it and only give 4 stars instead of 5 because of the limited/no options for colour in the Medium Brush.
