Steve Mann Review: Good for anyone with a new puppy - Good advice. Well written. We also listened to the audio book on a car trip. Very helpful suggestions that have made a difference with training our puppy. An enjoyable read filled with easy to implement training advice. Review: Great for 1st time puppy owners - I got this book when we got our new puppy since neither my fiancé or I had had a puppy since early childhood. I really liked the silly humor thrown into the book and how easy of a read it was! Personally, I felt it was a great book for people who are new to raising a puppy. If you have experience and are looking for intermediate/advanced training advice this might not be the book for you. It’s very basic, but very helpful and I’m hoping will build a great foundation for a happy, well behaved dog!

A fun read training guide for puppy.
A very entertaining read from an expert who doesn't take himself too seriously. About as silly as puppy sometimes but appropriate, right? Could have had more information on practical things like, what are good treats, especially since you'll be giving hundreds to your pup if you use his methods. The book is really about using positive reinforcements -- treats -- to establish a number of behaviors in response to verbal cues. It's not a comprehensive owners manual for your puppy. It's more about your relationship to your dog and how to develop it.

WOW! WIN-WIN for all! A Perfect Recommendation
This book was recommended to me from my daughter who lives in Ireland, who said this is the #1 book recommended by dog trainers. And it has been fantastic! I have trained 5 other dogs and this time the training is working sooo much better. My dog is a small breed, Maltese-Poodle mix and I will say she seems pretty smart and the training is working extremely well on her and of course on me - the trainer. Because in fact it is as much about making sure you are doing it right as the dog. As Mann states, "it's your responsibility. Your dog, your responsibility." And the key is doing LOTS of practice in short sessions, multiple times a day. The best part is that my other dog, who is a senior dog (12 yrs), is learning the same lessons too! She was a good dog before but I just did not train her as much and she did not have some behaviors learned that I am learning with this book. She just wanted to get into the actions and gets those treats too. So a win-win. I highly recommend this book!

Buy it and read it!!
It doesn’t matter if you’ve had a puppy before or if you’ve grown up with dogs your whole life- READ THIS BOOK! Things change, we learn more and more about our furry friends and ourselves. Steve Mann’s approach to love, understanding, and fun first and NEVER harsh words or consequences is such a breath of fresh air. I’ve had two incredibly well behaved dogs but they were never trained because I always felt the training options were mean. I felt like I was punishing my pups for doing something they didn’t even know they were doing wrong. I hated it so they never learned the good stuff. This book IS THE GOOD STUFF! I even got a notebook to write down the lessons so I can take them on the go or even to the backyard so I can really “proof” the lessons. I can’t wait get my puppy and start our lifelong relationship that will be so much better because I have this book in my bag!!

Basic Puppy Training w/Positive Methods to Build a Lifelong Relationship
Loved this book. It’s an enjoyable, speedy read sprinkled with humor throughout. I recommend reading it before you even bring puppy home, so you can start out right from Day One. All the basics are covered, from house training to chewing to greeting visitors politely and that elusive loose leash walking that we all dream of. Mann’s training philosophy revolves around understanding your dog’s point of view and using positive training methods that strengthen your relationship with your dog. No punishments or harsh methods; replacing undesirable behaviors with specific behaviors that you want puppy to do instead.

Great and funny puppy training?
It’s such a great book! It’s funny and fun to read. I’ve honestly learned from it more than puppy classes. There are many practical examples and fun stories. I can’t recommend it enough - you must read this book when you get a puppy!

Really positive training method 🐾
I’m currently a hundred & odd pages in, & have read enough to know that this book was an excellent purchase. It’s been over a decade since I last owned & needed to train a puppy, & having recently acquired two chug puppers, I thought it might be a good idea to brush up on my skills. Training methods are constantly evolving, & a lot has changed over the years. I really like this book because it focuses on positive reinforcement to shape a puppy’s behaviour, rather than punishment & constant correction. The author makes it very clear that there’s no such thing as a bad puppy, just an owner that has neglected to be vigilant, & consistent. The book is common sense in print really, instead of picking up on everything your doggo shouldn’t be doing, focus on what you’d like them to do instead, it’s half the effort, & is much less confusing for all. I’ve had to unlearn saying variants of “No” to my new puppies, because it’s just not effective, it’s exhausting & frustrating for both yourself & your puppy when you’re constantly finding fault with their behaviour & trying to correct it. The foundation for the training method described in the book is to have a praise party when puppy does something you want them to do, reward with lots of fusses & a tasty treat, & pup soon learns that good things happen when they behave a certain way, & nothing exciting happens when they behave inappropriately. It makes perfect sense! Another useful tip I’ve learned is to really reinforce the “sit” command for lots of different situations, that way if your pupper friend is in doubt about what to do in an unfamiliar situation, their likely response is to sit, because they know good things happen when they do. That’s so simple it’s genius! I’m sure I’ll have picked up plenty more useful training tips by the time I’ve finished reading, but I’m already seeing progress with my puppies thanks to the bits I’ve implemented from the first half of the book. I’d really recommend this book for first time puppy owners, as well as experienced dog owners alike, there’s always things about your training that can be improved upon, & this book is clear, concise & written in an accessible manner, with lots of humour; it’s a brilliant & informative read at an excellent price.

Super
Très intéressant, plein de bons conseils et sympa à lire car l’auteur ne se prend pas au sérieux avec de l’humour sans perdre le sérieux que le sujet mérite.

Essential advice for training your new puppy
This was an easy read with some great advice - much of it common sense but also many great tips. We have been reading this prior to collecting our first puppy. The author is an experienced dog trainer and tells the reader how it is with humour and sensible advice. Will probably refer to it frequently as we navigate the challenges of introducing him to our family and our home.

Kaufen!
