Great to make training treats too! You get WAY more for your money and its healthier than store treats!
Love this for dog training treats... Especially in the beginning when you are going through loads of treats to reinforce regular desired behaviors, treats can get expensive quickly, not to mention regular run of the mill grocery store treats are typically not so good for them and are more like fast food in nutrition quality.I was buying the best quality training treats I could find at pet smart for our puppy to finally start to train her in earnest...at the cost of $10 for a 6 oz bag! YIKES when you can go through 4 of those 6 ounces easily in a heavy training day with a large breed puppy the size of mine (she is about 5 months now, and closing on 60 lbs lol) that just was not going to work. I knew I either needed to cook some chicken and shred, cuz that is even cheaper than the training treats lol...or I needed to find something else....then I remembered buying this a while back as a food treat for my older dog (she normally eats high quality DRY kibble) and remembering that natural balance was the best quality for the price ratio I could find back then, decided to give this a go as a training treat to see how it would work...Oh my gosh...a roll cut into training sized cubes lasted me more than two weeks with my big energetic girl! What an awesome savings, and its a decent quality food that can be used as a training treat...that wont compromise their health.BOTH my dogs are loving it...even my older girl is coming in from her potty breaks looking for the treats lol as potty treats ended for her 12 years ago, doing tricks she has not done in a long time like playing dead...just tryin to get some of that. lol!If you use it as a treats with a smaller dog, I do think they sell smaller rolls, or you could just freeze portions when you open it up. My girls like all the flavors.

If you need a "treat" for training that is as good or better than liver
I call this stuff doggie crack. If you need a "treat" for training that is as good or better than liver, this is it! It's very easy to slice and cube into just the right size for your pooch. And it's regular food that can be given as much as needed without worrying about weight gain. (I cut it into pieces the size of kibble, then measure out her kibble and this stuff for the day, which works out about right for my girl.)I have only two complaints, both somewhat minor. First, I think my dog does get a bit more thirsty after having this stuff, so I'm guessing there's more salt in there. For us, I kind of like that because I don't think she drinks enough. Second, I've ordered the various sizes knowing that it can be cut, cubed, and frozen until i'm ready for it, and the larger sizes (2.5lb and 3.5lb) seem drier and more likely to crumble or powderize than the smaller 1lb size. So I pay a little more for the 1lb knowing works better for us.

... have 2 toy dogs - poodle and pappipoo who love this stuff
I have 2 toy dogs - poodle and pappipoo who love this stuff. I thought this was wet food - but it is actually a dry mixture compressed into a log that is sliceable for portion control. It has a very pungent spiced aroma (bbq?). They were going crazy while I was making portions to refrigerate. I crumbled a serving into a pretty fine consistency like graham cracker crumbs and they literally inhaled it. I refrigerated the portions and took one out for dinner and this time it was colder and more firm, so I ended up just cutting it into little pieces. Again, they loved it but one of them threw up all over my bedspread and they were the still in little chunks from dinner. But, I can't fault the food as they may not have chewed it good. Because they loved it and the list of ingredients is amazing - the first four or five is all protein - still giving it 5 starts and want to try introducing it to them slowly by sprinkling on their dry grain free dog food.

only thing my dog will eat
my dog is a hugely picky eater. He won't eat canned food and is super picky about dry dog foods. He will only eat the dog foods with the "chewy bits" in them. the problem is that my cats like the chewy bits too and eat more dog food than they do cat food. I was spending more money on dog food a month to feed a 30 lb border collie than I used to on my 100 lb shepherd. I needed a solution. we tried to find a canned food and nothing I could find would tempt my pooch's palate. I found this at petco and decided to give it a shot and it worked he loves this stuff enough that he doesn't share with the cats and in the long run I am saving money on dog food because I am not feeding it all to the cats, they have their own food. I can get it cheaper here than petco so I always keep myself a couple tubes ahead. this has been a God send for my picky dog.

Expired 3 days after receiving
My dogs love this and I use it for training. However, the roll expiration date was 3 days after I purchased it so I had to slice and freeze it. This stuff usually is good for months. I have just been getting it off chewy.com.

My dogs love this stuff
It even smells good. I find this so easy to measure and cut up. Once of my dogs will sometimes leave part of his food, but not this part. In fact in the morning when his appetite isn't great, I mash this up with a bit of hot water, turning it to gravy and mixing it with his kibble. He almost never leaves it. I tasted it, and it tastes like smoked liverwurst. I don't like liverwurst, but my dogs do. I occasionally give a bit to my cat for a treat.

the dogs love it, and because it's a high value treat ...
...actually, the dogs love it, and because it's a high value treat by my pups, I love it too! It really helps incentivize training exercises when attention is greatly needed. Great quality. It's also functional in other ways - for concealing a pill they have to take, crumbling into their food bowl for an extra treat or can be used solely as a meal (just be careful with your portions). It keeps in or out of the fridge but preference is to refrigerate it so it won't dry out too much.

almost like beef jerky
My pug likes it, but it's very hard to cut, almost like beef jerky. I guess it's alright to have around since it doesn't have to be refrigerated until you open it. I won't buy it again, though, just because of the dry, tough texture.
