Lessons to be learned for young and old alike
The Mystery of the Fire Dragon (Nancy Drew #38)Book 38 of 64 in the Nancy Drew Mystery Stories SeriesBy Carolyn KeenePublication Date: February 26, 2018Publisher: Digital Deen Publications (February 26, 2018)Nancy Drew is like Wonder Woman for girls. Nothing makes sense and I thought at first blush that this book shouldn't be recommended because of it. But then I thought more and realized that fantasy books are the same; nothing is real in that genre either. Nancy Drew is obviously the hero of the day and can get girls talking about important issues of cultural history and acceptance. For example:"The policeman asked to use the desk telephone. Mr. Wong nodded and the officer called for a patrol car. Soon it arrived and the prisoner was led away."Parents can explain to tweens about the history of police. During this time the policeman only had a whistle, truncheon, handcuffs, and a notebook. There was no radio so if you had a violent suspect you'd think twice. There were small police pillar boxes at the end of some roads and if you arrested someone, you'd have to manhandle them to a pillar box to call for backup.I thought it was refreshing that the publisher digitized these older stories to give tweens a sense of what the times were like back then. Halfway through the novel the writers actually narrate the story a little better and explain about the Chinese culture.“One interesting thing I’ve learned,” said Ned, “is that the word Kowloon means ‘nine dragons.’ It is named for the range of hills behind the city. In fact, it separates the city from the New Territories.”"It was growing dark as Ned hailed a taxi to take them to Aberdeen.“It’s the oldest village of the fishermen of Hong Kong Island,” he explained. “Families live on the junks and even in the small sampans.”"Surprisingly, even I learned something about Chinese culture from this novel and when a book can teach the old and young alike, that must mean something.

A mysterious amazement!
This book was so exciting! I loved how the author kept adding mysteries and making it seem like I was included into the book and helping Nancy and her friends solve this mysterious amazement! I rate this book 4.0000009 !!!

Lively and interesting cultural insights
I didn't like Nancy getting hit on the head again and then no doctor follow up; she must be made of steel. But I did like the details and descriptions of the events in the book. I could picture most of it as I read along.

going down memory lane
I had forgotten how much I enjoyed Nancy Drew as a girl. Being a very fast reader I zipped through the book, and in retrospect should have just checked it out from the library. Like of all of Carolyn Keene's stories, enjoyed it.

Good read
I really like this Nancy Drew book. It is one of my favorites. The reason I have it 4 stars is because the story is very similar to other Nancy Drew books. I still enjoy reading them though.

Nancy Drew books
Five stars for the old original books. I read the Nancy Drew series as a teen. I am 65 now and am re-reading them, fully appreciating how good these are. They take you back to a much more wholesome time. Highly recommend for all ages. The old originals are best, always at least 200 pages. The ones that were revised later are always 20 pages short, with full page illustrations taking up more space. Supposedly, the revisions occurred to enable political correctness of the earliest published ones. Something is always lost when an author's work is tampered with. These were written at a different time, a product of those times. I never found anything offensive in a Nancy Drew book!
