What does the first solo outing, 'Shine', of Anette Olzon sound like? Not like Nightwish, that's for sure. Neither like Alyson Avenue, the SwedishRock formation Anette was singing in before she joined Nightwish. Let's put it this way: From the defiant rocker 'Shine', via the mighty power anthems'Falling' and 'Lies', where Anette makes the most of the enormous range of her beautiful voice, through to the saccharine ballads 'Moving Away'and 'Floating', her debut presents everything a good album should have.Shine has been produced with the collaboration of some of the most successful teams in rock and pop in Scandinavia: the producer Stefan Örn(songwriter and producer of the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest winning track,'Running Scared' ), Johan Glössner and co-produced by Anette Olzonand Johan Kronlund. The album was mixed by Kronlund, Nicklas Flykt and Ronny Lahti (known for his work with Loreen and Roxette).Whether we can define Shine a metal album, rock, pop, or pop rock, what would be hard to miss is how strong the songs are and what an extraordinaryalbum it is.It exceptionally masters the borders between melancholy and hope, between fragility and power, because it showcases an artist who doesn't reston her laurels but heads boldly into the future. Because it shines.

Shine? Indeed!
When she got the boot from Nightwish (yes she got the boot!), I was disappointed, first because we finally had an album written with her voice in mind. Albeit Tuomas (main composer in Nightwish) says he writes the music without having who is going to sing in mind, you can clearly listen when a song is done for a singer's specifics, which happened with a lot of tracks on the Dark Passion Play album. When Imaginaerum came out, you could see the difference and approach of the album, it suit her better, you had tracks that you would never have imagine in Nightwish, with the different ranges of emotion that she can project as gospel singer. And that leads us to her solo album, the music is pretty good and compliments her voice quite well. The album starts with Like A Show Inside My Head and I find sometimes very hard to get the feel and vibe of an album with the first song and be excited for what's next. This what happened when I first listened to it, I knew my blind purchase of the album had pay off. The variety of songs and tempos are pretty well balanced, there isn't a song that sounds like the others on the album and one appreciates that uniqueness. Shine, Lies and Hear Me are the songs that grab you from the first listen, while songs like Floating, Invincible and Moving Away bring the out the variety that Anette is capable of achieving and why is this album so diverse in its songs and why it keeps you entertained. Why not five stars then? Watching Me From Afar, is the only song I sometimes skip, it has settled in, but only after some time, if weren't just for this small detail, that 5th star for sure.So venture and enjoy this signer with her great voice, you sometimes just need a friendly and warm tone to relax and enjoy, she doesn't over do it, she just nails it in every song without having to proof she can sing this or that, she sings what appropriate and best for the songs and for that I am grateful.

Anette Shines again
This will be a short review. This album has been in my current playlist since it was released. Why? Because I so love Anette Olzon's voice so much, I could listen to her sing the phone book. While differing in some degree to her work with previous goth/speed metal bands, this is classic Anette. She sings with sincerity and beauty and devotion. I can't pick a favorite track, because I just love the whole thing. This is a great album, in my estimation. It is not just for Anette's fans from previous days, this is an album for music lovers. Get it.

Such beautiful music!
I didn't know about Anette Olzen until she became the female singer for Nightwish. She has such a beautiful voice! I love this album and I fully recommend it.

Very good pop album
Anette Olzon's debut solo album is not to be confused with her past work with symphonic metallers Nightwish, quite the opposite actually, as this is the farthest thing from a metal album. Instead, "Shine" showcases the talents of this beautiful singer playing almost exclusively pop songs co-written by Olzon's and various popular European songwriters. Some songs are layered and complex ("Lies" being one) while others are more simple and elegant (such as the ethereally beautiful "Floating"). This album truly allows Olzon's voice to shine and if this any indication of her work to come, I eagerly look forward to more from her and her fantastic voice.

Great new solo CD
Anette has a great voice and I am glad she got a chance after the crazy way Nightwish got rid of her. I wish her the best of luck, but she doesn't really need luck, she is great!

Definately far removed from Nightwish work
As the review of this album on the Amazon site states, this is definitely not an album of songs that sounds Nightwishesque. Each track is more of a ballad than a rock song. Part of me is disappointed that Anette doesn't rock it on any of the tracks but the other half of me is pleased with softness of the album that she has produced.

Beautiful music.
If you loved Anette era of Nightwish you will love this album. I love it so it is a proof ! Anette is so talented but so overlooked. Music on the album is smooth and very soothing. I listen to it when I need to relax because it is a honey to my ears.

Different
Initially I wasn't too keen, but two weeks on and giving this another listen it is a very decent album. It is not anything like Nightwish, more mainstream European and easy listening. Catchy tunes which keep going round in my head.Listen to the two (at present) tunes posted on YouTube for a feel of the album.
