Washer door boot seal gaskets is designed to prevent water from leaking from the washing machine during laundry cycles. Washer door boot seal gaskets act as the washing machine's window to the outside world. This critical part is responsible for keeping all the contents - clothing, water, soap - inside of the machine, safely and securely.

OK while it lasted
This repair is not for the faint of heart. The detailed directions on the internet made a seemingly impossible task merely challenging. You get a good appreciation for what cheesy construction GE uses when you disassemble the washer. Both of the cement weights should be removed; it makes getting the seal on easier. (They have Chinese characters impressed in the cement; I guess this country can't even make its own cement any more.)Unfortunately after about 6 months, two new torn areas developed, so don't expect this to be a miracle cure for the original incompetent design. I'm trying to decide whether it is worth another $100 and a saturday afternoon to keep this washer working, vs. getting a new upright one. We have a family of 5, so it is not impossible someone did something careless, but we haven't deliberately abused this thing.(The irony is that the patch I made for the original one, using a bicycle inner-tube patch kit with rubber cement, lasted longer than the new boot seal. A little high vacuum grease around the edges of the patch helps too.)

Great fit, cheapest price
After someone left an item in their pants pocket and it tore the door seal a couple years ago, we were quite dismayed to see how much it costs to have one of these replaced. If you pay a technician it can cost $300 or more!!! That's a pretty costly mistake!Checking prices locally, other folks wanted $150+ JUST for the seal, not installed. Amazon's price wasn't exactly "cheap", but it was definitely cheaper than most other places so we bought it. I was able to install it myself, saving us a LOT of money and it fit every bit as well as the originally installed part.A couple months ago a child once again left something in their pocket and VOILA!!!--torn door seal. Unhappily I had to order another seal, but once again it fit like the original so we were soon back in business. Would definitely buy again, but sure HOPE it's not necessary.

GE Washer Replacement Gasket
After searching locally and online I found that the part was cheaper here on amazon and in stock. A few local shops could order it but didn't keep it in stock and it would take a while for them to get it.The Amazon merchant was fast to ship it which was important to us because we could not wash clothes without it. The part was packed well and was as described. After a bit of online searches, I found a few people who gave a some directions on how to install the part. After a few screws on the control panel, the top cover, a few gasket rings, and the front cover... the gasket went on quickly. If you search for and follow the instructions you find online you can install this part in 45 minutes to an hour. One thing I would recommend, that I read on one search, was to remove the large weights to make it a bit easier. I WOULD recommend taking these concrete weights off, just one at the top and bottom. It will make your job a lot easier getting the gasket lined up onto the tub and on the rim and help with putting the inner gasket ring on.I am a very happy customer who saved a little bit of cash!

Far superior to the OEM original.
First, regarding this product: all the positives others have noted definitely apply - thicker, fits better and lasts longer... and Amazon has the best price going! If you are going to keep this washer and need a seal - get this one!Now to practicality - I am the father of 6 kids, and we certainly put our washers/ dryers to hard, but not overloaded or unreasonable work. I make sure we all use things properly and my kids have been well trained on taking care of the things we own... money doesn't grow on any tree's here :) Incidentally, I am an computer tech who also works on just about anything well, having learned to fix/ build everything over the years... kids are verrryyy expensive!About 6 years ago, the wife decided we needed to get the new style front loaders, and against my better judgement.... we bought the GE set. Yes, even after many thousands of years, man still must perform wife appeasement rituals to guard from the wrath of mom. Anyways, we had 3 of these door seals break in span of 4 years before getting this better seal - and I am absolutely certain design flaws are the cause. During washing, the washer tries to balance the load which it generally does well - however, heavier objects like towels (no, not overloaded - as one actual example, 5-6 bath towels) will occasionally cause basket wobbling, which continually flexes that door seal, with arrangement of shocks causing highest flexing near lower left door area of the seal - where it will ultimately start ripping. The unit needs better load balancing compensation mechanisms along with a door/ seal redesign. Now you can lighten your loads and put this new seal on hoping for the best, while saving money... but my advice is simple: get a different washer - cut your losses and move on to a better product, you will save a lot of $$ in the long run.FWIW - the death knell for our old GE front loader was a warped basket induced by indigestion trying to wash 6 pairs of jeans and 2 towels - which I loaded; found out on various tech support forums over the years that this problem and ripping door seals are the major, common and ongoing issues with these units. The basket was 450$ online, but I know all the markers of a bad product, and had put up with this dog for faaar to long trying to break even on the financial input/ output. We went back to the old style top loaders as they have improved greatly, use little water, have loads of features, spin dry the clothes at 1100+ rpm and even have cool tinted glass lids. Also - much higher functional (as opposed to the very different and misleading rated) capacity - you will save much time, wear and money not to mention extend product lifetime considerably.... for us 3 years in, with heavy constant usage we haven't had any problems at all. FYI - the slightly newer version of the washer and dryer set we chose - are here at Amazon (read reviews all over the web, they are excellent) and links to them are posted below. The LG WT1201CV 4.5 Cu. Good quality rubber door gasket.
Just installed this on a GE front load washing machine. I used this DIY video: [...]The most difficult part of reinstalling the rubber door gasket was getting it into the groove and reattaching the small black hose on top. You have to stretch the rubber into a tiny groove in the black hose plastic grommet. Also, getting to the rubber door gasket clamp adjustment screw, I used a 1/4" drive universal joint. Otherwise, the rubber gasket itself looks just the original gasket I took off. Looks well made. I would buy it again.

Great part!
My son watched a you tube video and was able to easily install this gasket. The gasket arrived with a strong rubber oder. I soaked it in Oxyclean, and it went away.

Saved us tons of $$$ doing it ourselves.
Item arrived a week later then original due date.Glad it finally arrived. 2 weeks without washer is terrible. I know some other comments on here say this was stronger then their original one in their washing machine. This was the same as what we had in ours. Our original one lasted 8 years and we hope this one will last just as long if not longer. It was actually really easy to install thus saving you tons of $$$. Will definitely remember this in the future if need parts.
