Mosquito Man: An edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller (World's Scariest Legends)

Not edge-of-seat stuff
I read this to the end, to see how the author would pull together the strings of the story. However, my goodness, does he spoil the tension completely by having pages and pages and pages of two small kids bickering! Every word is reported ... was he padding out his tale? I sometimes skipped over the endless child chat to get to the real story. This completely spoiled the "thrilling" part for me. To stop the thread of tension is almost unforgiveable in a book described as a thriller. I found the explanation in the end, and the description of the mine, too way out. I also cannot understand how the persons mentioned (no spoilers) managed to find their way back through the confusing tunnels. To me, not a succesful thriller.

A snoozer of epic proportions
This books rating as a best seller astounds me. The only top rating it earned for me was last place in all of the books I have ever read. A snails pace story that embodies a minute by minute account of a long family vacation/trip that has the reader grimacing in pain at the plodding, bored out of your mind narrative. If you have ever been on a long road trip with children in tow, you will get to re-experience, in detail the road conditions( we drove down bumpy roads) and mindless conversations (are we there yet?are we there yet? Are we there yet?) When they finally get there, mosquito man is about as scary and psychologically thrilling as a slug covered in salt. This is a book that the publisher should pay you to read, as you are going to mentally suffer during the time it takes you to finish and rush this book to the recycle bin.

Not your average big bug read
Seriously, this was the worst book I've read in a very long time. The actor's were horrible with inane dialog blathering on interminably, their fates so predictable. I had hoped for more, but hope really is not a strategy. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone of any age or intellect. Horrible.

A must read! Keeps you on the edge of your seat!
Mosquito 🦟 man was one of the best thrillers that I have read in a while! I didn’t want to put the book down. Now my son who hates reading books 📖 is going to read it. Getting ready to read The sleep Experiment next. If the author Jeremy Bates reads these reviews could you please let me know if you wrote or are going to write more about the main characters and what happened with them? I’m dying to know. Thank you for a great book!

Bates delivers again
I’ll admit I felt it started off a bit slow, but as soon as it picked up it was an instant thrill tide to the last page. Creepy because of the imagery painted by the author. Creepy from the tale and a bit more creepy because is there a portion that could very well be possible. You decide, and I recommend you do.

Started great but loses steam
Really good beginning. Excellent characters and you can feel the scenery. Then the book seems to hit a wall about halfway through. It just stalls out. Then gets going again but by then you don't care. The ending sucked. I felt that all the stalling and boredom around middle could have been used to set up a better ending but it was downright depressing.

Nonstop, page turning thrills!
Most of the time I don't do book reviews on here but I felt I must. This book was absolutely fantastic! Well written, scary, thrilling, and not written in that "dumbed down" kind of way. Well worth what I spent! Please keep writing and honing your skills.

Edge of your seat
Mosquito Man was honestly an edge of your seat thriller. I have to confess I found it free on a book site and thought, ha...what a crock but I read everything. I read this in one night, alone. And was creeped out most of the night. Yes, I skimmed the history lesson and long descriptive narratives, and the children arguing but the book was a thriller. Kept me reading.

Disappointing
This has the makings of a good book but unfortunately the execution is poor.It starts well but then slows to a snail's pace. For a relatively short book (fewer than 300 pages) to linger on the trivia concerning the main characters car journey to their "cabin in the woods" is a mistake. The two children don't act like 5-year olds. When they should be frightened they are instead busy bickering and thinking/doing things simply necessary for the plot.Flashbacks occur at inopportune moments so rather than leaving the reader on the edge of their seats, longing to see what happens next, it has the totally opposite effect and induces boredom. Furthermore, the last act is much too abrupt and brief. Finally, given the number and bloodthirsty nature of the creatures responsible for all the mayhem, how is it possible that only a few people have disappeared over the years? I would have expected the whole state at the very least to have been wiped from existence.

Too unbelievable
In the prologue, it states Rex's family died in 1981, yet further in the book it states his father bought him a present in 1985. Also in the prologue when the police car was parked outside the cabin the day after the disappearance there was a neighbour stopped to talk to them through the open window, yet later in the book it states it was late Summer & the family was the last people at the lake. Also who would drive to a cabin which had been left unlocked for 40 years without knowing what condition it was in, yet the furniture was still OK & the beds still had bedding on them good enough for children to sleep in. Too ridiculous.

Poorly written twaddle
The story lacks any subtlety, suspense or believability. This comes across as a book that an inexperienced 15 year old wannabe novelist would write - in fact that's probably an insult to the 15 year olds. There is no skill or craft on show here at all.I did something I rarely do which is to completely stop around 60 pages in - I didn't even care enough about the conclusion to skim read to the end like I normally do with an unreadable book.I apologise if I sound a little bitter, but when you invest some time (and possibly money) in a book, you expect there to be some reward - here there is absolulely none. Not worth the price I paid and I got it for free with Prime.

WORLD'S SCARIEST LEGENDS
When Rex, Tabitha and their two kids set off for a relaxing trip to Canada they find themselves fighting for survival in what can only be described as the holiday from Hell.As usual Jeremy Bates had me hooked with this fast paced horror. I loved the World's Scariest Places series and it looks like The Worlds Scariest Legends series is going to be just as entertaining. Can't wait for the next one.
