Excellent and unexpectedly powerful water rocket!!
I purchased this water rocket for use in a STEM event for grade school children (ages 8 - 12). I owned a water model rocket decades ago when I was a child, and while it was fun to launch, it was always a mild disappointment in terms of its maximum height. I have to say this PLAYSTEM rocket far exceeded my expectations established by that old rocket. By carefully managing the amount of water in the rocket (there is a sweet spot with just a bit of water, to allow a significant amount of air pressure), we were able to get the rocket to go up to ~ 100 - 150 feet. The kids has a blast, even when the rocket wasn't locked in to its base and misfired, or when it didn't get much above their heads. The assembly for the kit is very easy, and should take only 15 - 30 minutes. The rocket itself is safe enough that even middle school children should be able to use this kit safely without any major worries. The only real drawback of the kit is the lack of a properly weighted launch pad. The launch pad provided is lightweight plastic, and needs to be balanced by the snap-on of several large water bottles. The water bottles get disconnected after every launch, so it's an inconvenience (albeit a minor one) to reassemble it again. Overall a great value, and a great gift for science-minded children. It's a lot of fun to play with, so it's also a great present for kids who will have a blast launching the rocket, and perhaps might just be excited enough to learn more about the science afterwards.

More fun than you might imagine!
My 7-year-old grandson and I just used it for the first time. He loved it, and I must admit that I did, too! We used an open field near his house, and it’s a good thing because the rocket flies higher and farther than I expected. Other kids at the field were enthralled by it, and they started calling out countdowns to launch…which my grandson loved, especially the girls soccer team! Trust me when I say that, for boys at least, this will be a hit.

Using water beats the mess of vinegar and baking soda!
Very easy to use. Comes with everything but the water bottles and water. Remember to have three water bottles to anchor the launch pad. Will travel 100 feet up and has adjustable azimuth. I suggest the yellow nose cone be filled with foam or some type of filler and glued or zip tied on. If not.... the bottle will crush but remain usable if landing on a hard surface. The nose cone repeatedly detaches upon landing. Fun toy with my 3 year old grandson. Excellent learning booklet supplied.

Water rocket
Play order this for our grandson in California. He absolutely loves it. He loved the first one we bought and now he loves the second one we bought the first one accidentally burnt up in a house fire. He was really sad.

Not what I'd hoped
As a child in the 1960s, I recall having a toy that worked on similar principles. This rocket looked intriguing, so I bought it for my young granddaughter. I actually bought it twice. The first time, the mechanism was broken so the rocket wouldn't launch straight. I returned the defective product and received another. At the first launch, the plastic piece attaching the string to the launch mechanism broke. We could still launch the rocket, but someone had to be sitting right next to it and duck when the rocket went off. I'm not buying this a third time. If it works right, it's a lot of fun but getting it to work right was a losing effort for us.

We loved this
We had such a great time with this. We figured out that the less water we put in it the higher it went. We were launching rockets for about 2 hours before the kids got tired. I highly recommend this product!

Doesn’t work
we followed the instructions, once you place the rocket on base and start bumping air, it starts leaking everywhere and wont launches. Very poor

Fun for kids of all ages.
This is a nice set up for a water rocket. Kids will love launching it into the air. It goes 150 ft or more up when well inflated. Its a well designed system that works very well. I have only two gripes: (1) Take care not to lose an O ring from the base of the rocket to the bottle part of the rocket. They can come off and then the seal doesn't work well and you can't pump it up as powerfully. The O-ring is just held in with gravity, and if your kids are holding parts of it and turn it over while you're on grass... well, its gone. (2) Buyers should know that the base to launch it requires 3 bottles of water (any brand will do). It just adds weight and holds the launch system down, but people need to know that. Ignore the gripes though and buy this for the kids, you'll all have a ton of fun.

Amazing capability for a "toy rocket"
Assembled with adult assistance, but our 6 year old granddaughter can operate it under adult guidance and really loves how it takes off and flies up 20 to 50 metres. Watch out for trees and roofs. Very impressive.

Cool , even if your 50!
I'm 50, and had probably as much fun with this as any kids did. Does go a couple hundred feet up! Fun and pretty safe . Good toy rocket .

9 Yr old loves it.
Do it in an open space people. We used tiny bottles for the base, didn’t matter, it can cover some distance, good fun.
