Layne's Legacy
I have five of the Layne Redmond series Lotus drums, including two of these Lotus Tambourines. I loved Layne's book "When the Drummers Were Women" , and even had the good fortune to take a drumming weekend with her. She designed these drums with Remo, and they are lovely. Distinct tones from the head, warm but crisp. The jingles are very comfortable to play, and their sound is shimmery. The rich, teal-tinged green shell, and the lotus motif enhance the symbolic and esthetic beauty of the drum.

sounds great but scratches on drum head
Sounds great, a bit heavy--I expected that.Got 3 scratches/tears. Seems to go through the drum head. Worry that it would tear some day. Returning for one with no tears.

It was a gift and we are very happy with the product.Design by my late teacher Layne Redmond.It sounded wonderful!

Thick and heavy
The Lotus Tambourine was a little too thick and heavy.

try it you might like it; no big loss if it is not what you were expecting
the only downside to this product is that it is nonadjustable. the tambourine has a crisp, dry attack now but I wonder with continuous use how it will hold up. I only paid $125 so I guess you might consider it disposable when and if that occurs. the cymbals do not have the ring I would expect from "German silver" but I was not seeking that bright sound.

Faster received than expected!
I like the price/quality balance of this tambourine.I am not that happy with the brand stamp Remo and I am thinking about removing the golden, kitschy sticker on the shell.It looks cheap

Nice instrument
I saw the video whitch Layne Redmond is demonstrating her signature model, Riq, Lotus and Tar-Rine.And I bought this Lotus tambourine and Tar-Rine.As a result, Tar-RIne is much more enjoyable for me to play.But this one is also nice quality instrument for sure,As Layne says in the video, this one is light and easier to handle.Fixed tuning is not negative for me as far as the drum sounds nice.
