Great full size student set!
Drum sets can be very expensive (thousands of dollars) or the very cheap models can be very bad and disappointing. This set strikes the balance between usability and features and affordability. The set is well constructed out of real wood and is quite attractive. This is a full size set, not a toy or kid set, and I am a proponents of kids (unless they are really young) to learn on a full size drum set. My son (and my cat) assembled the set without even watching the manufacturer video on Amazon, and he thought it was easy to assemble despite the single sheet of instructions (but again Eastar has a video right here on Amazon). It took him about an hour to assemble. I have purchased several Eastar instruments and I love their level of attention to details, like providing a few extra bolts for assembly. The kit comes with a throne (that's what drummers call the stool they sit on :) ), a set of sticks and a drum key for assembling and tuning it, so you're ready to play after assembly. The heads (the plastic "skin" that you bang on) are good general purpose ones. Drummers can get "religious" about what heads they prefer, so once you become more proficient you may want to change them for the type you prefer. In their item description, Eastar seems particularly proud of the snare drum, which is often the weak point of cheaper sets. It does sound quite good and has great bounce and clarity. The snare stand is well built and provides a comfortable angle. The snare drum skin is textured rather than being smooth, not sure if it's part of the snare sound design? it *might* get dirty faster? The cymbals are also good beginner cymbals. Once you know what you like, you may decide to upgrade them to more professional ones, but this entire drum set is cheaper than what some cymbals go for and sound much better than the "pots and pan lids" that came with another brand's cheap set a friend got last Christmas. All in all, a great value for the beginner (why spend thousands if you're not sure you're going to stick with it) but also a potential set for the gigging musician that doesn't want his expensive set to get damaged when playing at a bar, or needs a second set for the practice space.

It’s all about preference but great for beginners and learning
This is a perfect drum set for beginners. It wasn’t easy to assemble and the directions wasn’t very clear. To be honest it needs maybe a small booklet with the instructions and a few diagrams to show you things. I think this could be a little cheaper in my opinion. The outer shell or whatever is nice quality, however the drum pads itself are very cheap feeling and bend and crease at the slightest touch when assembling. The stool is very hard as well so I don’t use it. The kick drum or bass drum whichever you call it sounds awful but all the other drums sound ok. This is a drum set for beginners and if you want a professional sounding drum set this is not it. But if this is just something to learn on and practice then I would recommend. I only got this one because I am a beginner and learning to play for church and this isn’t the drum set I’ll be using at church. The drum set at church sounds a whole lot better but this one will help me when practicing at home. It’s all about preference and for now this is great for me.

Never heard of the brand, but overall great drum set for the price.
I was a little skeptical, but the reviews for this drum set seemed very positive. I'm somewhat new to the drums and this is the first set I've ever owned. Compared to friends sets I've played on that were triple the price I gotta say this is good quality. Had a few friends come over and try it out. They couldn't believe how good it sounded for the price. The cymbals are cheap quality as expected, so first thing I did was replaced those with some much more quality ones. Also, the bass drum might need some kind of dampening. At first I kept getting a horrible loud boomy sound from it, but after setting a folded blanket inside it sounds much better now. I'd highly recommend this for a beginner. At this price point this is the best value you'll get.

Drum teacher approved
I bought this as a Christmas present for music students of mine. The three brothers were able to assemble the kit on their own and I helped fine tune the setup the following week. Throw a blanket or towel in the bass drum to muffle it, tune the toms to 5ths (think of the theme to George of the Jungle) and you're good to go. The cymbals and hi hat stand are light and wouldn't stand up to the rigors of gigging. The cymbals are aren't very musical sounding (rough tone) but get the job done for the price. For reference I teach all sorts of instruments and collect vintage drums. This kit won't sound like a classic hand made American drum and it's value won't hold over time. However it's meant to be an affordable stepping stone and in that regard, it's great.

Great kit, but one issue
The kit is a great starter one. Everything sounds good. The problem I’m having with mine is the Hi-Hat. Not only does it sound cheap but it keeps coming undone. The two rods connecting the top cymble to the peddle keep unscrewing from each other, and the bits using to connect to top cymble to its rod also keeps coming undone. Overall the kit sounds good, just having issues with the hi-hat.

Great set
Bought this for my son who is 11 years old. Wanted something that he could grow with... This is his first drum set but we didn't want a kid one that would only last a year or two. Assembly was easy but there were instructions. So we just looked at the picture and set it up. My son now takes drum lessons and his teacher said this was a good purchase given his level. This should last him for years to come. By the way, it takes up a lot of room as any drum set of the size would. We have a corner of our living room devoted to this and it works but it would not have fit in his bedroom or any other space.

Base drum needs to be replaced.
There is a crack in the bass drum shell I took a picture. Can it be replaced?

Great for beginners!
My 7 year old daughter has wanted to learn the drums since she could speak. This is a great kit for beginners in that it’s relatively cheap and you get all the necessary bits. The kit comes in one box which is quite inventive considering the number of parts. The instructions are simple but easy to follow if you have the patience and have been in around instruments. Once out together the kit sounds, well like a drum kit - loud. It’s really useful that the sticks and throne are included also as it’s a couple less things to think about. To raise this isn’t going to win any awards but it’s enough. You couldn’t take this on a world tour but that’s not what it’s built for. For the sake of giving a beginner a start in a cost effective way this is it.

Happy
Love this kit. The only downsize is the chair that comes with it isn't sturdy and it's quite hard to tune the kick drum
