No, you need a smaller base mount. These arms allow expansion not contraction.

Have a vesa 600 mm x 400 mm mount and am buying a new tv. it seems all of the new tv's have vesa 200mm x 200mm. will this adapter make my mount work?

As long as the base plate holes measure 200 X 200 you're good. The extension arms are to EXPAND the reach of the 200 X 200 base plate only. Most 55" & up TV's are 400 X 400 What size TV do you have?
