Well-Written English Edwardian Era Self-Made Woman
Her fictionalized albeit enjoyable BBC series intriguing me to learn more about this interesting creature led me to the delight of two elegant biographies about her from a bygone era. I recommend first reading her next-gen aristocrat intimate Daphne Fielding's before this also well-crafted biography by a man about a self-made English woman who made history in the last of England's gilded years, the Edwardian Era, as you follow this amazing Victorian-turned-Edwardian "glass ceiling"-breaker through that pendulum swing down from England's pinnacle Victorian Era and on through the West's Industrial Revolution and two world wars.Though not as developed as a higher social caste would have enabled her, this dramatic character is as engaging to readers now as to the upper crust of her time who called her a duchess and elevated and celebrated her. Her strong individualism and courageous perseverance are inspiring. The rich times she loved are historically nuanced. And both biographies elegantly expressed let us enter and savor a world never to be seen again--a rare bit for Anglophiles and logophiles, that I hope you too can enjoy. Bon appetit :)

Rosa Lewis: An Exceptional Edwardian
Excellent book. Very much the real Rosa Lewis. A great true story of a woman who started as a kitchen maid and ended up in demand as a great cook in many big houses in London and elsewhere. She owned the Cavendish Hotel in London and was as well known for that as she was for her cooking. A good picture of London/England from before WWI to after WWII.

Cooks and kings
This book had very little to do with Rosa Lewis. It was mostly a tired history of the Edwardian era, nothing that hasen't been reiterated in hundreds of books on King Edward. The book did link Rosa Lewis with an affair with King Edward which I was not aware of but the outcome of the affaire was the same as with any of his mistresses, they enjoyed the fruits of their labors.

If you love the "Duchess of Duke Street" this biography goes further in highlighting the life of the feisty, intuitve, and amazing Rosa Lewis.

An interesting Life ...
A book of its time and a little tedious in parts - only for the devotees of this woman - oh and more photos would have been nice ....

Excellent Book
If you are interested in Edwardian England, you will love "Rosa Lewis." It is very well-written and the book upon which the British series "Duchess of Duke Street" is based.

Five Stars
A superb book, in which the TV programme in the 1970's was based on the Duchess of Duke Street.

A fascinating life.
What a wonderful tale the life of Rosa Lewis is. The subject matter is absolutely fascinating and although the book occasionally rambled a little, I was completely glued to the story of her life. The author couldn't have gone wrong with subject matter like that.
