Great Little Hot Plate For Emergencies
I bought the Geepas 1000W Single Hot Plate for emergencies. It would also appeal to anybody wanting a to cook from an electric power source camping or in a caravan. I want the ability to cook basic hot food the event of a power cut. It’s unlikely to happen as I only recall two power cuts in my area in the last five years and they were for no longer than a few hours. However we live in a world where infrastructure hacking events are becoming more common. The threat of hostile state supported economic and infrastructure is also growing. Buying a few basic items to get through infrastructure problems of a day or two is something I felt I need to do. One of them is a low power hot plate for cooking basic food. It’s a very cheap model at £14.34 but crucially only uses 1000W from a power source. I have a Jackery Explorer 1000 battery that can safely power the hot plate in a power cut. The hot plate is small and easy to use. It has five heat settings. When the heat of the hot plate reaches the setting temperature it stops drawing power until the hot plate falls below the setting making it more efficient for rationed power supply. I have boiled water and heated soup 5 minutes from my Jackery battery. It’s small, cheap, light and effective. There is an inbuilt assumption in my head it would not stand up to constant heavy use for many months but that is not it’s purpose. I want a cheap, effective emergency option for hot food in the event of a prolonged power cut over a few days.

Works for me
The arrival was prompt and the packaging was good. It has a uk plug which is great for me. It’s slightly bigger than an A5 page and doesn’t weigh too much. But not so light that it would move. Plate size is similar in size to a small hob that you would typically find full hob. It’s very easy to use as its generic plug in and turn to your desired heat. It heats up pretty quick. I didn’t check how long it took to cool down fully but I would assume similar to any hob. It’s great to have if you’re in a pickle or a student who prefers cooking in room. There was an odd plastic smell the first time I used it but has since left.
