Learn all about Christopher Columbus' early life at sea, which led him to seek fortune by sailing west in hopes of creating new trade routes with the Indies. Kids will read about why he called himself the "Great Admirald of the Seas" and learn of all his struggles to find finacial support for his voyage. Review: fun, quick reads filled with TONS of information - This series is fabulous! These are short, fun, quick reads filled with TONS of information. Although geared toward the 3rd-6th grade student, I have read these aloud to my younger children, pausing now and again to answer questions & find that they too enjoy these books. Great for independent reading, history assignments, or research papers. Would highly recommend these books. Review: Good - Great to introduce kids to biographies and history.

Accurate, Easy to Read, and Interesting Pictures
We purchased this book as a supplement to our homeschool studies on Columbus this year, and we're very pleased. I read it aloud to both my five and seven year olds, and my seven year old read it again independently as soon as we finished! I appreciate that this book was not your typical, "Columbus was a sunshiney hero!" children's book-the information was accurate, and did include some of the wrong choices he made, like capturing Taino slaves, and deceiving their people into doing his will by saying God would send a sign from Heaven that they should listen to him (Columbus knew a lunar eclipse was about to take place, and used this information to deceive the Taino). I highly recommend this book, and others in the "Who/What Was" series. They are easy to read, but packed full of accurate information and detailed illustrations-we love them!

Highly recommend!
Great book. My 6 year old really enjoyed and we learned a lot of info about Columbus, not typically taught in early learning years. Have since purchased more books in this series!
