Influence

So, I grew up with Mary Kate and Ashley, watched Full House and bought their movies. But, kids grow up. I outgrew them, they seemingly outgrew their targeted demographic and for anyone who paid attention to them, it was obvious.Forward through their attempt at NYU to now. Ashley has all but dropped acting and now heads the Row, which is really fantastic. She has captured how to make couture lines wearable to the every day. She was the first person to put couture seams on a tee/tank. That's pretty remarkable for a now 22-year-old. Mary Kate is still acting (well) and does a good job with Elizabeth and James, their more affordable (though still expensive) line.Basically, these are young women who grew up in fame, so their perspective on it is more jaded, deservedly. Moreover, they grew up admiring these people just like us, except they can actually afford them and go out with them. poor us.Regardless, my point is these are girls that actually have a clue what they're talking about and they're asking questions that aren't entirely typical because they know how to dance around cliche questions. They've obviously been there.There's a pretty heavy-handedness to Mary Kate's love of Warholian culture just in terms of who she interviews and the questions involved. Ashley, you can tell has more of a designer's appreciation for these people. She loves them like a wearer, but also can be considered a colleague, and I think that comes across from time to time.If you have an interest in fashion, photography, the culture that surrounds that and you care about them in a way that you aren't looking for the next YSL biography, I'd definitely recommend this to you. Its a fantastic read and I think it really helps you get over the fact that these are the Olsen twins and now they're using their entity (read: influence) to prove their talent.

What I dislike about this is the cover is missing. I guess that’s what happen when I buy a used book. Still great condition book. Happy with it!

As a 31 year old I'm all about a mixture of coffee table books and this is a highlight. People are always surprised at how amazing it is. At first glimpse I usually get an eye roll because its Mary Kate and Ashley but its not your Walmart brand MKA these are your Elizabeth and James and The Row all grown up and letting you know it twins. They show their influence with the best of the best. If you changed the cover to Blake Lively or some other totally acceptable fashion forward twenty something there would be no question at the amount of talent in this book. Don't knock it! My only complaint was when I received it from amazon my cover was slightly damaged but I didn't complain because I got it discounted.

This is a sophisticated, beautiful book. The photography is wonderful. So is the layout. It isn't something that will tell you how to dress and where to shop. That isn't even the point of the book.It was never going to satisfy the person who "seen" it in Urban Outfitter and it likely won't impress most who buy it because they are fans of the tv show. If you love, love, love style books by reality "stars" don't buy this book.It's fantastic for someone who loves the history of fashion. For those who have watched their style evolve over the years. You will get an idea of how these two developed their sense of style and fashion based on people who have influenced them. Influenced. Get it?You don't have to be a fan of the Olsen's as performers, or age 25 or younger to like this book. Just a true fashion history fan and someone who likes great pictures.

An authentic and deep dive into fashion innovators. If you are a fan of fashion and it's history, this is for you. A great coffee table book to own and to just have as a part of your fashion collection.

I actually thought originally this book was like a bio on the Olsen's but was pleasantly surprised to find out instead its about a bunch of big insiders in the fashion industry and fashion icons. Basically I wish I could do what they did it seems like they took a year to interview all these different types of designers, artists, and the like to find out what makes them stand out in the fashion industry and what inspires them in fashion in general. There are some great photos and the like in it is a pleasant coffee table type of read. I found I actually preferred this over a bio type of format instead.

Got this book for decoration. I always get compliments on it and it’s great conversation starter. The book is all old and torn and looks cute and vintage (I’ve had it for years now) I took off the paper cover as soon as I got. Its like a having a Vogue or channel book.

I mean who wouldn't want a book of the Olsen twins?! I mainly wanted it for my collection of celebrity crushes, coffee table books, etc. but it is pretty interesting to read about them other than their role played in Full House!

I'm in my mid 30's and the girls were in their early 20's when they wrote this book.How very clever- there's about a couple of pages of them writing about them, many photos, and the rest are interviews with the artists and designers they admire and are inspired by. And through the dialogue you get to see plenty of who they are and their charms and charisma.I didn't know which one is Ashley and which one is MK before reading but now I know- I can tell them apart and I'd be able to from their wardrobes and even from comments. Really interesting. The one for keepers.

I have wanted this book since I was 13, so to get it, was a dream come true . You can see that it's used because the cover has gone a bit yellow, but that happens naturally, so it doesn't bother me.

I really really love the cover and cannot wait to read this because its how they are now, the most up to date thing of them. It looks at the stages of their lives, what they did and why and stuff.

Factual, and an interesting read for people interested in fashion

This book is fantastic if your an Olsen fan like I am, but it's also a great source of inspiration for an fashion lover, filled with great pictures, history and information!
